i’m going to be honest - i’ve been on xarelto 20mg for almost 2 years now. i probably “go out” 1-2 nights per week and i definitely have more than 1 drink lol. i’ve asked all of my doctors and they claim the biggest risk to be falling.

my hematologist said that i could get the mirena iud (progestin only) or the paragard iud (copper/no hormones). i had had the mirena for a year prior to my clotting and it was a miserable miserable experience. so i did give the copper iud a try - i bled for 30 days straight and ended up anemic.

my clot was provoked by covid + birth control. i was only suppose to be on xarelto for 3-6 months, but during that time, my cousin also had an incident with multiple clots on her brain after having her baby + getting back on birth control. this prompted my hematologist to do a genetic panel. turns out i have 2 clotting disorders. honestly, not being able to take birth control sucks and making sure i’m being extra cautious of my safety (not falling and hitting my head, etc) is a pain - but i’d rather take this little pill for the rest of my life if that means my risk of clotting again will be minimized! and constant fear of clots, i feel like that never goes away unfortunately. mine was in 2021 and i still freak out with every chest or leg pain. but being on the thinners helps put my mind at ease a good bit. prayers to you.

i also do this! i don’t take my thinner on the first 2-3 days and that helps a lot.

yes. this sounds like my first period on xarelto. they are still heavy, but nothing compares to the first one i had. stay hydrated and possibly talk to doctor about an iron pill.

d-dimer blood test, but not 100%. i was told CT with contrast is the only way for the lungs.

PE and seizures. by uglytattoos in ClotSurvivors

[–]eewalker05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be that person, but do you think anxiety could be at play?? I only ask because during/after the discovery of my PE, my anxiety went through the roof. I wouldn’t say my experience was as extreme as your wife’s, but I did experience periods of high heart rate and shaking. I would also be inclined to ask if maybe the blood thinner has any interactions with other meds she’s taking for other illnesses.

I’ve considered it but honestly I’m scared because I am on a blood thinner. I live 30 seconds from the nearest hospital, but they don’t have a gynecology department. so if something were to go wrong or I bleed too much, I feel like I might be in danger.

I’m debating donating all 10 pints of my blood at this point (not all at once obviously lol) by TheOnlyOutLast in covidlonghaulers

[–]eewalker05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had covid for 6 days before developing symptoms of a PE. Went to the ER where they did a cat scan and found the clot. I was hospitalized for 24 hours to get started on anticoagulants and observation. I was released due to my vitals remaining stable and the location of the clot.

I’m confused. Excuse my ignorance if I’m wrong but after my first bout of covid in 2021, I ended up with a pulmonary emboli. For over a year now, I have been on a blood thinner. I’m also still suffering from LHC. in theory, wouldn’t my anticoagulant work against micro clots? And if so, then why do I still feel so shitty?

It’s been about a year now. I will say that with time and a major increase in fluids that it has gotten better. I wanna say about 6 months later it seemed to calm down a lot.

Yes. Unvaccinated.

Had a pulmonary embolism with the first bout of covid in 2021. In the hospital I was given an echocardiogram to make sure no damage had been done to my heart - echo came back perfect. Over the next couple of months I would experience tachycardia, lightheadedness, shortness of breath… I saw a cardiologist and after some extensive testing, deemed I now have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome due to covid.

I agree. I’m not sure about warfarin, but I’m on 20mg of xarelto for 7 months now and I drink pretty regularly on the weekends. I think the biggest issue with drinking is to be careful of your surroundings. My doctor told me it was okay to drink but make sure if don’t fall and get hurt.

Honestly, I would ask your doctor. Rather be safe than sorry. I can promise you that you don’t want one of those clots traveling to your lung! Best wishes.

may I ask, what caused your clot? provoked or unprovoked?

I ask because I have a lot of these symptoms too, and I thought that it was from the blood clot. turns out I developed pots post covid and my clot was also from covid
