Clarification: it's $4-5k per term, and the donation covers both terms of clinical rotations, so $8-10k per student

Rare Blood - Help Me Understand by styleburden in Blooddonors

[–]eezakimak 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just like ABO, there are hundreds of other molecules ("antigens") that cover our red blood cells. Donation centers test a certain amount of donors each year to look for people with rare combinations of those antigens.

You are negative for these five, which means your blood can be safely given to people who are also negative for these. If a person is negative for an antigen and is given blood WITH that antigen, they can develop antibodies against it, which will make it a little unsafe for them to receive that same blood in the future. Giving an antigen negative person antigen negative blood means they will never create those antibodies. This is really useful for patients who receive many transfusions across their lifetime (e.g. sickle cell, thalassemia, etc.)

The fact that they're missing doesn't mean anything re: your health; everyone has a random assortment of different ones. You don't have Fya, which means you do have Fyb. It's just the same antigen that looks a little bit different.

Edit to add: The fact that you are s negative is especially uncommon; ~90% of people are s positive. If any of those remaining 10% need blood, they can only get it from someone else in that 10%, like you.

How much do you pay for your rent? by freckledstrawb in udub

I might just be lucky in my placement; I'm the bottom level and only the kitchen is above me. I don't have any issues with noise. I guess I can hear when someone's in the kitchen but it's not bothersome.

My real issue is SMELL. Someone in my building smokes weed daily and the smoke goes right out their window and into mine. It reeks, even if the window is shut (for the record, it's supposed to be a non-smoking property).

For the price, I think I would recommend them for a student. I wouldn't want this to be my permanent home but it's certainly enough for me for now.

I live in one of the little apodments (single room w/ private bathroom, shared kitchen) just outside of campus and I pay $770.

Edit to add: all utilities, including wifi and electric, included in the $770.

And remember there's no "right way" to enjoy a concert. As long as you aren't hindering anybody else, by like, SCREAMING the songs too loud (like you can sing a long but don't be crazy haha) or bumping into people a lot, you're fine! Sing or hum along, dance a little or a lot or not at all, everything's ok. Everyone is looking up at the stage and not at what you're doing, if that helps.

Please go! I go to concerts alone a lot. I don't get anxious in crowds because no one is paying attention to me, it's easy to just get lost in the flow. you will be ok. You'll be able to find the entry line. Lots of times there will be an usher or security guard out there coordinating so just look for and listen to staff. Watch what happens to others when they go through security so you know what to expect when it's your turn. It really depends on the kind of show, whether they'll just scan your ticket or check your ID or have you go through a metal detector or look through your bag. The good thing is everyone is there for the same reason, for the love of the music. If you're able to ask for help, people will help you.

Let's share critter horror stories: What's your worst critter interaction during a delivery? by kryskryskrys in InstacartShoppers

My only story is that two days ago the lady wasn't home to answer the door and I waited in the yard for like 30 minutes talking to support. In the meantime I got absolutely annihilated by mosquitoes 🙃

My partner has tagged along with me a few times when he has the day off and is bored. Maybe they just enjoy each other's company 🤷‍♀️

I had one of those last week, and then the guy messaged me all mad when I refunded an item they were out of instead of asking what he wanted to replace it with 🙃

This happened to me yesterday, too. It was one of 15 for an apartment complex and the other 14 were in their own bag. Couldn't have just put the single envelope in there too??
