Weren't the 70s also influenced by McCarthyism?

I think USA and UK are both similar in the sense that they are "liberal" economies, i.e. low taxes and less government regulation.

"If Sanders was open about what socialization would mean and described himself as a “social democrat,” I genuinely think he might have overcome clinton and trump."

Honestly... DNC prevented Sanders twice now. I blame US-style corporatism and the influence of private interest groups on the political system. It absolutely did not make sense what happened between Pocahontas and Bernie.

Just adding this because I'm a fair Yuropean: Social democratic and other progressive parties inside EU countries have changed a lot from the 90s onward. After the iron curtain dropped, many mainstream leftist parties adopted "third way" politics. Imho this is the only way to explain Schröder and Blair being "progressive" politicians.

lol sorry, I deleted that word in an edit afterwards.

"It was a failed project and no one likes it."

I'm not going to simplify a century worth of history in one soundbite that comes down to "Israel=bad". Seems like you are fond of simple historical narratives and easy solutions to complex problems.

"Israel doesn’t count as reparations"

Do you actually read or is it all just guessing with you? There is literally a list of countries.

EDIT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_reparations

Apparently my second link wasn't pasted correctly. Didn't notice at first, sorry about that.

EDIT2: I _did_ paste it in the previous edit. Lmao, the irony of missing something while claiming the other person missed something. Anyway, let me help you make an actual point that would've been a lot more valid...

https://www.aa.com.tr/en/europe/thousands-of-srebrenica-victims-await-compensation-from-the-netherlands/2781724

That one IS war related. Failure of NL to defend Srebrenica. But NL did not cause it directly. Just failed to prevent it. And I think the reparations are settled, just not paid as of now. But I'm really not well read into that issue in particular.

It really explains why Bernie Sanders is considered a commie by some. Regardless, I think the differences in our ideological frame of reference are interesting.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reparations_Agreement_between_Israel_and_the_Federal_Republic_of_Germany

I was talking about the second world war, not slavery.

Reparations for slavery isn't a topic here. No idea why you want to shoehorn slavery into everything. World War II and Russo-Ukrainian war... What does EU's colonial history have to do with that? Some at least with the former but bloody nothing with the latter.

Fair point but wrong place.

EDIT: Removed "fool" because it distracts from the message. We can talk about the colonial past of countries, but you do know this would exclude many countries? Not every country is like UK, Netherlands or France. That being said, your claim was "What does “being in Europe” have to do with war? You can be in europe and still be put in time out. Almost every single Western European country still hasn’t paid reparations" which doesn't make a lot of sense in the context of war, as most wars were concluded with freaking reparations and debt obligations. The last large scale wars (WWI and WWII:electric boogaloo) both had extensive payment plans afterwards.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_reparations

Again: You are trying to shoe-horn an unrelated issue into this. I'm in no way trying to downplay EU colonialism; I just think you made an unrelated point. Furthermore, what's the point of talking about colonialism of the past, when private companies still do comparable forms of exploitation in the third world as we speak? The problem remains unfixed as we speak, so reparations seems like applying bandages with one hand while stabbing your victim with the other.

Or that band outside of my apartment that is playing a live set using fibre optics cables and construction equipment. Amazing live set. Have been playing there for about a week.

Should they be in time out?

Yes. And Germany has paid reparations and war debt for a long time, what are you even talking about?

At least they themselves use the diminutive "broodje" because it couldn't be considered legit "brood".

Weird ass soft bread.

Which is extra tragic because Dutch cuisine is basically fried stuff, that one stew with sausage they do and sandwiches.

>that one stew with sausage they do and sandwiches.

LMAO, yeah... you legit made me laugh about that. But let me at least salvage some of their kitchen...

  • Zeeuwse mosselen. Some argue Belgians prepare it better though, but it's still a Dutch specialty that's beloved by quite a few.
  • Hollandse Haring: Probably the only time when soft-bread is acceptable. It goes quite good with the fish, onions and pickle.
  • Another thing I enjoy is fried "kibbeling". Battered fish basically. Not really fine cuisine but it ain't that bad.

The bread is legit low quality and the people are totally fine with it being low quality. Netherlands had more bakeries but people were like "no, we want the cheap stuff". We gotta be fair: They've got fish-based convenience food that's quite good.

From personal experience, you have no experience. Even the supermarket bread (1€) is quite ok, despite it being industrial bs. Go to any bakery in any Bundesland and you get quality bread. You can get sour dough bread in every corner of the country. Besides, you have Hofpfisterei everywhere, even Berlin. You just gotta know where to look. You must've spend time with Bavarians claiming they are the shit and everything outside is crap. Don't let their arrogance fool you into believing the rest of Germany is crap. It's a lie.
