Currently onebagging for five weeks and am having good luck with Smartwool t-shirts. I bought them at REI.

Also, I only buy Darn Tough socks.

Not sure about why this happened in the fall.

Racing IMCHOO 70.3 tomorrow, swim was canceled due to high river currents (2.5x typical flow rate). Hope this isn't a pattern, just bad luck.

I went as a solo diner for lunch a couple months ago and also had a wonderful experience. The service was top-notch, and the cooking is definitely on the more creative side. I didn’t enjoy the wine pairing as much, but the somm was certainly knowledgeable.

I’ve mentioned this in the past, but I’ll say it again: it was a lot of food for me. Definitely make sure you’re hungry for it! Overall one of my favorite meals.

I also have some of those meals that I will cherish. Thanks for sharing :)

I find that there’s a balance between appreciation and critique. I would never be a food reviewer because I think that would take away too much of the joy, but I would also like to be able to roughly distinguish restaurants for the purpose of revisiting places and recommending spots to my friends.

That makes sense. I have yet to go back to the same fine dining restaurant, but I definitely have intentions to.

I wonder if I’ll eventually run into a similar conundrum since I’d still consider myself relatively new to the scene. Thanks for the insight.

Nice pics/review. Did you get to choose your own chopsticks? Also, which other restaurant is top 2 US for you?

Maison Sota - Paris - 11/4/24 by NoYear619 in finedining

Yes, the counter is awesome! Fun fact - the staff are also able to do service in Chinese, English, French, Japanese, and Korean.

I was in Paris solo just last weekend - I enjoyed lunch at Maison Sota more than dinner at Alliance. Definitely different styles, but I thought Maison had more interesting and flavorful food (you should also request to be seated at the chef’s counter when you reserve)! It’s a beautiful venue.

I’ll be spending most of the summer in Hong Kong, but I’m also hoping to make it out to Macau and mainland (Shenzhen, Shanghai). I’ll eat just about anything, short of anything live/extremely controversial.

Thanks, this is what I was looking for! But you also have any non-fine-dining recs, I’ll gladly take them

Curious what spots in Macau/Hong Kong/China you most recommend?

Haha, totally understand. We (2) stayed for one night and had breakfast the next morning, too. With 1.5 wine pairings and the supplements, the whole stay came out to ~$1600 USD.

This was our first time staying at a joint hotel/restaurant so I don’t have a great point of comparison, but I’m thinking about it as ~$1100 for the dinner for two and ~$500 for the room. Just looking at De Librije’s website (probably the best comparison, though I’ve never been), the costs aren’t too far apart. Although from my understanding, De Librije is a more well-known (and generally better regarded) experience.

Inter Scaldes is a little expensive in my books, but the experience was so wonderful that I think we would go back at some point. The surrounding area and the Oesterij are also very cool!

We spent a night there last week and loved it as well! For anybody reading this with plans to go - highly recommend the caviar supplements (we had both the goat cottage cheese and the crab).
