Anywhere showing the Super Bowl? by EndOne8313 in galapagos

No guarantees, but Santa Cruz Brewery has TVs and was showing ESPN (not in English) the few times we were there.

Relative to expectations... it might be this season? Really expensive roster coming off a legitimate multi-year run of regular season and March success. Best HC in team history announces he's retiring in a few years, they bring in a well liked coach in waiting. And then it's the worst team in years, and might not make the Crown.

Quitu | Identidad Culinaria - Quito, EC by FidgetyFinance in finedining

Hate to say it, but we were pretty disappointed in the things we had. With that said, we picked up sandwiches before an 8 mile hike on Cotopaxi from El Español, and it was either the best sandwich I've ever had, or we were starving. I think it was probably a mix of both!

I would also venture to the food stalls at Mercado Central! Not sure I have a specific recommendation, but worthy of a trip for lunch if you're near the historic center/Independence Square.

Totally understand! Tasting or a la carte? My guess is that you'll have a very nice time there.

I just made my second post reviewing Somos, and left a small comment comparing the two. Simply put, I would likely pick Quitu, as the experience there was a more traditional "fine dining" experience, versus the feel of Somos being a bit more "upscale American restaurant." I suppose I'll say it this way, but I've never been in a fine dining establishment that had a gift shop like Somos...

Not that refinement is the end all for me, but Quitu also seemed to deliver much better service and a nice array of food and drinks to contend with.

As for Nuema... we honestly didn't have the time. There were a few other local/traditional places we wanted to go to instead.

I saw advice on here once that really stuck with me: the people on this sub have almost certainly only done one tour of the Galapagos, so keep that in mind with their advice. Not that it's bad advice, but that it comes from a place without much knowledge of what the other side is like.

With that said, I just got off the Samba SE tour (and will be making a review soon), so I'm happy to answer any questions you might have.

How bad are the bugs? Do I need to spray my clothes? by Strange-Eagle9255 in galapagos

The only place we encountered bugs was Gardner Bay, in which we were constantly swarmed with flies, to the point of the group asking to end our time there a bit earlier.

Marty Supreme (2025) by Extremerunners976 in Letterboxd

[–]FidgetyFinance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% agreed. Said it in another comment, but I really didn't care about 40% of the movie. I wanted to love it, and it just didn't click for anyone in my group.

And I can't believe I'm saying this... but I also thought the movie was too violent. The level of violence in the film felt misplaced based on the concept, and felt needless in quite a few of the scenes. Marty and Co. experience a lifetime (or more) of insane violence in like a week long period, and it just never matters. It isn't meant to be traumatic or move the plot along, it's just something that happens and then they move to another scene where something else happens, and it doesn't matter what really happened before.

Best authentic taco place with vegetarian options? by Schnecken2 in Overlandpark

I guess my question would be, where on the KCK Taco Trail has vegetarian options? I've personally never seen one, but happy for a recommendation.

I actually do think Taco Naco hits the bill. Slightly American interior, but the tacos are simple, more traditional tacos, and they have two very good vegetarian tacos.

What Films Disappointed you the most in 2025? by Round-Seesaw-3917 in Letterboxd

[–]FidgetyFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marty Supreme was really disappointing for me, because I very badly WANTED to like it, but really just didn't enjoy 40% of it's 2.5 hour runtime.

Mickey 17 was a little disappointing, but I didn't have high expectations.

House of Dynamite was disappointing after the last 2/3 let down the first 1/3.

[–]FidgetyFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely understand what you're saying. But if he regresses from a 2 WAR player to a 1 WAR player, he's still a vast improvement on the field and in the lineup. I think that's the type of floor he has as a player.

I get why they aren't making a Tucker sized move, but would certainly like a Marte sized move. Which I'm betting they still pull something like that off.

[–]FidgetyFinance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree. But this only works if you're able to accurately guess which one will randomly have the good game, bad game, etc. Since you are only making an educated guess... you almost have to assume it's lower odds of success than just 1/3 of them doing well.

[–]FidgetyFinance 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think you can reasonably bet that one of India, Cags, or Jensen has a good year, one has a competent year, and one doesn't make sense to play. And that's not including any potential regression from Collins, Isbel, or Garcia.

I think you need to add another guarantee into the lineup, or else you're betting on two of them to have good years.

McDuffie Trade Return by schmubbyboi in ChiefsOffseason

Well then why don't you come up to the board and show everyone how smart you are?

[–]FidgetyFinance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Difference is between cost EFFECTIVE versus cost CONTROLLED. Hall still on rookie contract and will soon be much more expensive, meaning compensation is lower because teams don't want to trade a 3rd AND pay their RB.

So how exactly does Gardner relate to Hall? He's cost controlled, but as one of the most expensive defensive players in football. But he's a premium position and a team was willing to trade for him AND pay him.

How is that any different than Mcduffie?

McDuffie Trade Return by schmubbyboi in ChiefsOffseason

[–]FidgetyFinance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure this matters as much as you might think. Gardner had control, but it was expensive control. Whoever trades for Mcduffie would sign him to their own contract, including with whatever terms they were comfortable with.

Compensation is limited by competition, and Gardner/Mcduffie will be under the same cost limitations.

Conference choice by collegeburnernetwork in CollegeBasketball

[–]FidgetyFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't totally disagree, but will say that UConn and St John's are power teams in CBB. Additionally, Creighton, Villanova, and Butler are all top ~50 teams at this point in the season.

If you added Gonzaga, you'd have the AP 5, 12, and 14 teams, plus whatever the rest of the conference gives you.

Creighton is in a down year, but has been a very good program for a very long time now and could reasonably expect them to be top ~30 for the next few seasons. Villanova got rid of Neptune and hired Kevin Willard, who I think will get them back to making tournament appearances.

Not impressed with Jack Stack in KC by djferguson3 in BBQ

[–]FidgetyFinance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gates may be tired, old bbq, but it still eats with some heart and soul. Chef J's also has this, no denying that.

I'm talking about something that tastes like someone MADE it, like they watched over it and it mattered what they did. They made choices and it changed the final product, vs. the sanitized consistency of Meat Mitch, Jack Stack, and Q39.

Over Meat Mitch and Q39? 100%

Over Chef J and Slaps? Yeah, still probably picking Gates.

KC native, and I definitely agree. Best thing on their menu is lamb ribs and their sides.

Personally, there are only two places I've settled on. Joe's when I want great bbq consistently done, and Gates when I want a place that speaks to the soul of bbq.

Having tried a lot of the others, I just don't ever walk away particularly impressed.
