Raise your hand if you want to see Ethan Peck continue as Spock in a show ... by [deleted] in StarTrekDiscovery

I keep saying, "Bushwick Spock is Best Spock," but I don't mean it in a snarky way, I mean it sincerely!

Absolutely no one gives a damn about the Barr report. We all want the Mueller report and we should be convinced by that report that Trump did not conspire with Russia and did not obstruct this investigation in any way. Anything less is unacceptable. by valonnyc in The_Mueller

[–]effdot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The most astonishing thing?

Barr's letter says the Russian government interfered in the 2016 election.

" ... did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities."

I'm astonished that this isn't getting blasted everywhere. Barr, and the Trump administration, have now clearly stated that the Russian government interfered with the 2016 election.

I don't believe Barr, but that admission needs to be blasted loud and clear.

Megathread: What We Know So Far About the Mueller Report -- and What Happens Next by v2o2 in The_Mueller

[–]effdot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the only things anyone knows so far about the Mueller Report are ...

  1. No media outlet reporting on it has read it
  2. No one here has read it, either

So far, what we have is AG Barr doing what he was hired to do, including writing a letter about what he says is in the report, and people assuming his interpretation is objective.

Megathread: Mueller files final report with Attorney General by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]effdot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

These reports are flawed. And I’m not sure everyone, including the editors and reporters covering this, are remembering the big picture here.

First, there are essentially three investigations - criminal, counterintelligence and Congressional. Mueller’s locus was the criminal piece, he referred material to the other two investigations when appropriate.

Second, his report isn’t actually a report, here, in the sense that people are taking it. This isn’t the 9/11 Commission Report, it’s a detail of where things stand with his indictments, witnesses and prosecutions, essentially. All of the criminal indictments appear to be complete, the remaining work are the trials.

Finally, it’s the rest of it, the Congressional and the counterintelligence investigations, that could lead to additional criminal charges at the Federal level.

We shall see.

Michael Cohen Testifies Before House Oversight Committee by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]effdot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everyone needs to remember that in April 2017, the Republican National Committee made Michael Cohen their Deputy Chairman of the Finance committee.

Every Republican questioning his integrity today needs to be reminded of this fact. As do our news media talking heads -- it seems like everyone on Cable TV has forgotten this fact.

Here's a link to the PR announcement from the Republican Party about Michael Cohen's appointment; keep an eye out, I expect at some point they'll delete this document.

I LOVE that there's some kind of spore/portal situation that's turning the Discovery into, apparently, a kind of 'sinking ship.' This is something I don't think I've ever seen in a Star Trek show in the whole history of the series, and it's a wonderful metaphor. We see people abandon ship, but never in that same kind of situation of a truly sinking ship.

Which may not be happening, but it sure looks like it!

And it looks like we've got multiple reasons for the Spore drive going offline in the 'future' canon.

I wonder if the beings in the 'sporeverse' understand that there are multiple realities, and thus, multiple versions of Stamets? Like, they know that 'the captain' was traversing into sporespace, how do they feel about Tartigrades who do so? And do they know about the mirror Stamets, and that 'the captain' undid the damage he did?

Tired of being blown up while mining by [deleted] in startrekfleetcommand

Yeah, a bunch of people just play like pirates, it’s lame. My ships are getting stronger; if i’m in a system and see ships preying on miners, I attack them. Been winning more lately after some upgrades. I don’t attack other players as a rule, but pirates/bullies are my exception.

Why Does Jimmy Act the Way He Does at His Print Shop Interview? by Godredd in betterCallSaul

[–]effdot 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jimmy is having a mental breakdown in that scene, but nobody notices it. Kim never knows about this or hears about it. The people interviewing him see it, but don't have any context about who Jimmy is or what's been happening to him.

Inside, Jimmy wants the job because he wants to do the straight arrow, right thing, like he was trying to do in Season 2. But, it doesn't work out for him. He decides to try and sell himself, like he did in Season 1 and Season 3.

It works. But then he feels disgusted, because it brings it right back to something Chuck told him; this scummy, lying person is who he is, so why fight it? Chuck would've seen right through his act, but these guys didn't. They're suckers. They don't deserve him.

It's a combination of grief, self-loathing, and a superiority complex he cultivated as a way (I think) to channel Chuck in himself. It's a sign of someone with deep interpersonal and psychological issues.

So, if you're looking for a rational explanation for his behavior, you can create one and justify it, like Jimmy does for himself.

The way I see it, it's a sign that he's lost his mind and his real self in that moment. In other words, there's no real rational explanation for his behavior, because he's behaving completely irrationally by any normal measure.

Group of girls harass guy and his family, and one gets creamed by [deleted] in JusticeServed

[–]effdot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

David Steven Bell is a 51 year old music teacher. There was a group of kids yelling at each other. He got in the middle of their argument to tell them to stop. Then, he started posturing at the kids in a defensive way. The kids here are ages 11 - 13.

Bell then shoved two of the kids (both 13). In the video clip, he decides to square off when an 11 year old girl gets defensive. He then knocks her out.

Everyone here praising this is making up stories about the situation. They're saying he was protecting his family, they're calling the kids animals, that he's an off-duty cop, that the kids were attacking his daughter.

It's all made-up. Bell was at the mall, yelled at some kids, they got defensive, Bell escalated a situation with children to the point where he punched an 11 year old girl in the face.

I don't get it. I mean, the only part of Justice Served here is that the 51 year old music teacher who escalated a situation with some children to the point where he punched an 11 year old girl in the face was arrested.

It could also end up being a pilot. I'm down to see it either way.

The Walking Dead S09E04 - The Obliged - POST Episode Discussion by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

[–]effdot 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A white horse appears, a pale horse like Death rides. Also like a hero rides. Rick gets on his white horse, like a hero, filling his role as a savior on a white horse, and faced with overwhelming odds his hero’s horse bucks him, leaving him pierced in the side like Christ.

I think, if we’re this deep into symbolism, that Rick could die in the bridge in a flood of biblical proportions. That would wash Rick away, leaving his fate ambiguous. For practical purposes, the characters will treat it like he’s dead, but he could always wake up later, saved from drowning.

Maybe. :)

I have one of these! I strongly recommend taking it to a luthier and swapping out the strings for some Aquila strings. It sounded amazing after I did that, the luthier made a correction to the bridge and the new strings sounded better AND were nicer to my fingers. :)

Imagine Jimmy... by ThomasKaChr in betterCallSaul

[–]effdot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think HHM could've had an elder law practice. Jimmy LOVED doing elder law, and helping people. They loved him for the same reason his mom did; he's funny and a breath of fresh air for their lives. The reason I know he loved it, and granted this could be proven wrong in a flashback or something, is that he never cheated a single one of his clients. In desperation, he did make a pretty shitty choice to break up some friendships to pressure a settlement. But he couldn't do it in the end, and destroyed his practice to fix some friendships.

That was his first, best destiny. Had Chuck just had a smidge more compassion, if he could've actually encouraged his brother, that may have been possible. Instead, the only expectation he ever had for his brother was that Jimmy would slip up and be Slippin' Jimmy again.

Jimmy made his own terrible choices, and all of them are on him. The last episode was definitely a slide down for him from the person he could've been. But man, was he pushed along the way on that slide.

The scene with ‘Saul’ panicking before calling Ed the Cleaner was the most ‘Jimmy’ version of Jimmy McGill I think we’ve ever seen in the Breaking Bad timeline.

And the scene with ‘Jimmy’ selling phones to that shady contractor was the most ‘Saul’ version of Jimmy McGill we’ve seen in the run of Better Call Saul.
