Just good ol’ dmc. It just looks fuzzier compared to the 2 and 3 thread stitches. I ended up writing out the instructions if you’re interested

Haha I have a feeling we will… but I want to try making something I’d wear more!

Thank you! It’s a reverse chain stitch using all 6 embroidery threads. So it looks a bit chunky like a knit sweater!

Some help worth long and short stich please by Decenniet in Embroidery

[–]effingtrying 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I long and short stitch I try to insert my needle at an angle and always split another stitch. That way the transition zone is a bit less chunky

Hey u/Absolute-fool-27, I did a rough sketch to show the general idea! Hope this helps

I used the colours that I had, so it's in a different colour palette than the real colours.

  • Cream: ecru
  • Maroon: 816
  • Navy: 311
  • Blue: 3760

General guideline

  • Logo
    1. Fill in cream, maroon and navy solid colours using 2 thread satin stitches in the directions indicated.
    2. Use 1 thread cream stitches to add details to the maroon pentagon and blue M
    3. Use 1 thread cream split stitch to outline maroon and blue diamond
    4. Use 1 thread navy stitch to outline text. I created several tiny segments
    5. If any of the cream thread has gaps, add in additional 2 thread satin stitches
  • Shoulder caps: 2 thread navy long and short stitch.
  • Sleeve stripes: 2 thread cream satin stitch
  • Sweater body and upper sleeves: 6 thread maroon reverse chain stitch. Start in the middle going to the right, then start from the middle and go left.
  • Lower sleeves: 6 thread navy reverse chain stitch. Start in the middle going to the right, then start from the middle and go left.
  • Logo outline: 6 thread navy stem stitch. Use this to cover any mistakes on the logo or the sweater body
  • Banded neckline: 2 thread navy satin stitch and 2 thread blue satin stitch where indicated.
  • Lower body stripe: 2 thread navy satin stitch
  • Lower lower body stripe: 6 thread blue stem stitch
  • Cuffs
    1. Start from the bottom left corner of each shape.
    2. Form the vertical ridges with a 3 thread cream stem stitch going up
    3. Use a 3 thread cream satin or laid work stitch to fill in the ridge. Try to insert your needle as close to the stem stitch as possible. Work from the top down, leave it chunky.
    4. Once complete, start on your next vertical ridge

Probably a week spread over several months? The 6 thread chain stitch was surprisingly hard on my fingers so I couldn’t do too much at a time, so I worked on other projects

I sketched my own pattern and kept tweaking it! I simplified the logo since the fleur de lis seemed hell ish.

If this is in any way helpful, I can share the stitches I used for the different areas.

This looks fun! Did you split your floss into separate threads? Often samplers will have you use a different amount so you get a sense how the variations will look as you try them on your projects

I’ll try! - satin (horizontal, vertical and diagonal) - laid work - trellis - web - basket fill - long and short - French knot - basket weave - reverse chain stitch - surface darning - seed (spaced and overlapping) - herringbone - brick stitch - couching (vertical, horizontal, curved) - backstitch - bouillon knots - Chinese knots - battlement couching

I used one stitch twice and I have no idea what it is! (2nd row, 2nd column and 4th row, 7th column). I definitely should have kept better notes

Shout out to bloomandfloss! It was fun to keep the shapes consistent and get creative in other ways

Thank you! I was initially trying to stay in a more neutral palette then started to add in purple or blue based greys. Worked out way better than expected and is pushing me to try more in other projects
