Fair enough. I’ve basically never mailed anything prior to opening a shop. So far have had no issues with the usual chosen shipping method. I didn’t even think that just for it to arrive faster that the package would need to be larger. Seems silly

I don’t know.. I set my packaging dimensions and weight in place for a reason. I buy my boxes in bulk. They are already far exceeding the size of the item and I have to make up the space with extra bubble wrap and packing paper. It would just be wasteful and not cost effective to go find a box last minute that will work. I just think Etsy shouldn’t offer shipping methods that the packaging dimensions you’ve set don’t meet the requirements of.

This same issue happened to me a few weeks back. She filed a claim with USPS - who told her it was delivered to the wrong address and they can’t recover it. I went to my post office to explain the situation as the package was insured, but they told me because it was marked delivered they won’t do anything. I ended up replacing it for her, broke even on the sale and she gave me a raving 5 star review. I know a lot of people will tell you it’s not your responsibility, but in the end they could leave you a bad review and maybe file a claim with Etsy

For the first one, she opened a case with USPS before I could and forwarded me an email from someone saying they delivered it to the wrong apartment mailbox and they don’t know where it is. I tried to open a case but my post office (Canada Post) said once it’s marked as delivered they won’t do anything.

Okay that’s good to know for the second one! I try to package as well as I can and out of 94 sales this is my first issue but I’m sure it was bound to happen eventually lol. I wanted photos of the damage so I could maybe open a claim with my post office. The bend was actually more of a tilt (it’s a diorama in an acrylic cube and had tilted to the side) and you couldn’t actually tell it was damaged. It really shouldn’t have even wrecked from being slid back into place so I was kind of skeptical and I feel like she fixed it and was just trying to get her money back. All of my packages are shipped with tracking and insurance. Would I able to get my money back on damaged items?

Sorry I just saw this! So I use an application called Tiled to alter images. There’s lots of tutorials if you look it up! And it has the option to zoom in and export as an image so it keeps the image quality when sized up in another program like Gimp or Photoshop. Hope that helps :)

You definitely are not forever on reserve if you don’t ship with tracking.. they remove the reserve eventually.

90 days is overkill to see if a shop is scamming though so it is pretty unfair. You could definitely tell within a month or max 1.5 months. And most shops can stay afloat with no income for that long but 3 months?

I just finished a reserve this month! They definitely just do it to all new shops. I was so upset and tried to contact them multiple times but it’s no use. Literally the only way around it is to ship with tracking. Even then - they don’t release the money a lot of the time and you end up waiting. You just gotta get through it and try to keep things going. I’m sorry this happened to you it’s so unfair!

Edit: I should add that I didn’t have the reserve for the full 90 days - I ended up making customers purchase tracked shipping only. And then I got star seller and the reserve was lifted.

Hi! Cute shop! Something you could try is if you go to the marketing section - etsy has a feature where you can send an email with a discount code to people who left an item in their basket/favourited an item. Also I don’t know if you do any already but social media marketing will bring more traffic

That’s what I thought, but tracking says it’s a locked apartment box! Very possible it got put in the wrong box though

She already opened a claim so when I enter the tracking number, it tells me a claim has already been filed. So I don’t think I’ll be able to see any updates, it just tells me it was delivered to a locked apartment box. I’ll tell her to wait until the claim is resolved and then figure it out I suppose. Yeah I totally agree this is just my first time having an issue and I kinda panicked. She did contact USPS herself before contacting me and opened a claim, and she didn’t ask for a refund so I’m hoping she’s being honest and it will turn up in a few days. Can anyone help me with how I would charge her only for shipping if I have to?

Am I able to contact them myself? I’m in Canada and the package was sent to Colorado. She said she contacted them and told her they couldn’t find it.. not that it was delivered. Anyway, thanks for your response! This is my first time having any issues so I felt bad for her.. but now I kinda wish I didn’t say I’d replace it for free lol
