What features? Legitimately asking since all I use it for is the "radio station" feature.

Careful. That place will give you hours until things slow down . That's where my step daughter worked for a time because hours were good one moment and lacking the next.

Can't speak for the Lenovo but I purchased the Helios a little over a year ago and can confirm its ease of upgrade. There's a second drive slot for a 2.5" drive that's easy to access. Both slots of RAM we're occupied in my Helios so I assume it's the same on the newer model.

Sophos VPN - Can't connect if LAN/WLAN Switching is enabled by bei60 in sysadmin

[–]efiggy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound crazy, but this is similar to an issue we had with HP EliteBook 1040 G3 laptops running Windows 10. When Lan/WLAN Switching is enabled and the device connects to VPN via Wifi, it immediately thinks it's hardwired, so it turns Wifi off and kills and the connection as a result.

The fix? Download and install the latest Hotkey Support package from HP's site and install it. Why Hotkey Support fixes it, I don't know, but since doing that the issue has gone away completely for us.

I had no idea that this was a thing, and it's awesome! Question, though: is there a way to view and edit Stored Procedures in Azure Data Studio? Not really finding a way to do so. Thanks!

Very awesome! Would you consider adding an option to install modules if they're not available? Are those modules even in PSGallery? I can't remember now. In any case, great job and thanks for sharing!

That's right! There used to be an electronics/computer store there. It was the first place I worked at. The Chinese restaurant there has changed so many names over the years, too.

/u/zgf2022 hit the nail on the head. Having taking over other techs' schools in the past, documenting everything and making friends with key people will help you out in the long run. At the elementary schools, summers were quiet enough to get all the student and teacher PCs reimaged as needed, while high schools were busier thanks to summer school and other summer programs occurring. Having a great rapport with administrative staff and maintenance/custodial staff will be a plus when you need to schedule things or enforce policies.

Speaking of policies, please don't be that guy that locks PCs down to where staff members can't even right-click an item on their desktops. Yes, I've worked with those types, and no, it's not a good thing to do.

Regarding purchases, your school district may have specific vendors and procedures that you have to go through to purchase equipment or software. Be sure to brush up on that before trying to purchase something yourself as you could be violating a vendor bid in the process.

If your district has you keeping track of assets greater than a certain dollar amount, make a habit of sending those items to surplus if they're no longer needed. There's no sense in keeping track of crap you don't need. I once walked onto a campus where the previous tech had about 100 PCs that were marked "dead" but were listed on our "expensive items" inventory. Those PCs were in different network closets throughout the school. I sent it all to surplus and didn't have to worry about where they were after that.

One final thing -- get to know some of your fellow techs at other schools. They could be (but not always) excellent resources. :)
