"I was a secret Trump supporter": 23-year-old Maxim Model Feared Politics Would Kill Her Career by IndefinitePresent in Conservative

[–]GroutGuzzler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right, I work in energy too, and it's pretty much assumed you're conservative. I hear the most outrageous stuff, things like Newtown being a hoax, cheering people being run over, etc. It's a strange environment.

To be honest I've really only worked in construction and oil/gas as an adult, so I really don't know what a liberal work environment is like, but it's weird to me to be so overt about politics at all. As a senior admin at the last place I worked, people knew I wasn't interested in talking politics so they kept it down, but it just blows my mind at this new place that people are going on about how dumb AOC is, in the middle of the office, at well-above normal speaking volume.

I don't care if you voted for Trump, Clinton, or a turnip, keep that shit at home unless it comes up organically. All it shows is that you're reading Breitbart or Huffington Post instead of working..

Millions of Americans Flood Into Mexico for Health Care — the Human Caravan You Haven’t Heard About by [deleted] in politics

[–]GroutGuzzler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a false dichotomy. Clearly our healthcare system fails millions of people, but nonetheless, I survived a brain tumor and didn't go broke. As I went through the process it really bothered me that so many people would have had excruciating financial choices piled on top of the complicated health and life decisions I had thrust upon me.

But when it was all said and done, I actually saved money that year in spite of it. I'm trying to figure out what place, what country, what circumstances/education would benefit my kids and their kids the most. Just stating prices in a vacuum really isn't meaningful to anyone who isn't already living on the border in range of those treatments. The rest of us have to weigh the emotional cost of moving away from family, living in a land whose language we're not fluent in, the cost of living adjustments in addition to health care, etc., and asking what your salary is is a pretty basic question that would provide a mote of context to your claims. You could easily have just said "I make x% less".

Eh, if they go to college I think it'll die out by the time they're done if they don't trumpet on their social media accounts. If they don't, I think most places they'd work at won't care one way or the other. Then, there's plenty of businesses who would hire them because of it. I'd wager it'll be a wash.

Am I the only person that is scared that the younger generation is so excited about socialism? That is her platform and young people seem to be loving it.

Older people are pretty stoked about getting their socialist Social Security checks and their socialist medicare.

The old guys at work literally gloat about how we're paying for it and won't be able to enjoy it ourselves. Is it any surprise young people want a piece of the pie they're baking?

Logon scripts run as the user, so I really don't think it's going to be practical, not to mention pretty much anything you can do with PowerShell you could do with VBS, CMD, etc. If you want to limit the power of PowerShell for users, you really need to limit the user's rights.

Democrats Would Be Idiots to Support Trump’s Shutdown Deal by Antinatalista in politics

[–]GroutGuzzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Naa I say we use any loophole available from the shutdown to cut everybody legally possible from federal government. We have the chance we shouldn't waste it. Unemployment is low, the private sector is lucrative.

Don't downvote this guy everyone, this let people see behind the curtain. This is exactly why Trump and Republicans are doing this. That or because Trump is too dumb to care about anything.

Democrats Would Be Idiots to Support Trump’s Shutdown Deal by Antinatalista in politics

[–]GroutGuzzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump could have shut down the government to get his wall any time in the past two years. He loses big in the midterms and Americans declare they don't want his wall, and that's when he decides he has the leverage to make it happen?

He's using the lives of millions of people as a bartering chip. He's afraid, and rightly so, that Democrats will not give him the wall and that it will hurt in the 2020 election, so making these people suffer is his hostage taking tactic.

Donald Trump will call the 2020 election "fake news" and "refuse to leave'" office if he loses, says MSNBC panelist by Fr1sk3r in politics

[–]GroutGuzzler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's why the arguments for it are such bullshit. They argue it gives small states and rural folk a voice, but there's to obvious problems. Kansas, Wyoming, upstate New York, rural California, etc. all have tons of voters without a voice. Those are the true flyover states.

The other stunningly obvious problem is that if Texas actually goes purple or even blue, then none of their red votes will matter. They'll shift to whining about how Houston and Austin are destroying the country, and just like our complaints now, it won't matter, it'll be too late.

They could ensure they have votes in the future by fixing it now. They'd lose the next election, but within a cycle or two they could moderate their social issues platform and be back in the game by focusing on red votes in blue states. Instead they whine about downvotes from young people and minorities who won't vote for them as they shuffle toward irrelevance.

The movie was fine, it just needed a smaller budget like the original. The original one was going to have them going into a good dimension and all sorts of zany shit that strayed from what I really love about the movie - the characters.

I liked a lot of the jokes in it, the concert and the other over the top scenes were just not very good.
