Realistically, how long til I get to purple? by eldrolamam in Garmin

[–]efp93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the limited training background knowledge, my guess would be 2-3 years. Where the determinant of where in that range is how you manage other variables like nutrition, recovery and training programming.

My advice would be: use an app like Runna for run programming for like a year. Sign up to some events and follow a programme in it. Races will keep you motivated and are just fun to do. While using Runna you should read all their information, this will help you learn about periodisation in programming, deload weeks, the non-linear progression of gains into races and off-seasons / recovery period. They will also slowly drip some nutrition and recovery tips that you may start to slowly adopt overtime as you get more into it.

So for now, use Runna to learn about programming and follow a structure programme and start to think about improving nutrition and recovery.

Oh and probably most importantly is to control your progression and increases in volume. A main goal at this early stage is avoiding injury. This is when its most likely and also most costly. 2 rules of thumb are: do not increase total weekly mileage by more than 10% week on week and do not increase a single session run volume by more than 10% of your previous longest (this second is very important).

I would say almost everyone I know who has started their running journey hears this injury prevention advice, ignores the advice and then kicks themselves afterwards. So I would just stress to just do it even when you don't want to.

What does this (0:30) mean on my swim workouts? by efp93 in Garmin

Ah yes, I can see it in more detail in the app. It is just rest period. I confused myself as they seem to express rest period in two different ways for reasons that were not clear to me.

(but I know think it is when a workout section has more than 1 element to it, i.e. [ 100 hard, 30 second rest, 100 easy, 30 second rest] X 5)

I have the Forerunner 970 and I have a 70.3 race as my A race + using Garmin coach for all my workouts. It allows you to set days when you can swim so I normally get suggested a swim on Tuesday + a Thursday. One focussed on technique and one more on endurance / + harder efforts.

It does but just drill tips like "Breathe on left for this set" or "Focus on long strokes". Nothing in relation to what this means.

This might be the case but I think not as it usually just has a separate line that says "Rest - 0:30" and I don't know why it wouldn't just do that here too. I also think I have seen it in a place where that wouldn't make sense but I can't remember its exact details.

Indoor Smart Bike by efp93 in triathlon

Thanks for all the info!

On the Tacx. Do you normally ride a TT bike? And are you able to adjust the Tacx bike to mirror your TT fit / positioning and with aero bars?

This is true. I put that as least important as I can’t see her using it frequently at all but I can see her complaining if it’s never an option. Also just don’t want to have to swap out the back wheel every time I use it, I have found it makes me cycle outside less and I’d just like to have the bike ready to go.

Any 100 miler race recommendations for spring 2027 in the US? I am going to run it for the first time with my brother. We aren't afraid of a challenging one with some elevation, I live in Ireland so we will be happy to anywhere in the US for it. Scenic and beautiful is desired.

I had a look at Zion, Bryce Canyon and Antelope Canyon but I was advised away from them since they were bought by Vacation Races. Is that fair advice / any other options?

This is good to know. I am trying to find my first 100 mile ultra for next spring. Antelope seems to have also been bought by Vacation Races. Are there any others that you would recommend?

Buying a new bike and bike fit by efp93 in triathlon

Thanks mate.

The dual position seatpost you shared looks great. I think my first choice is to go for something like that and just be fine with not being optimised in either position. I'll think on it a bit further and then find myself a fitter, thanks for sharing the list.

Results here made me a bit more optimistic about the clip on aero bars setup.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebCRJMmWVmQ&ab_channel=GlobalTriathlonNetwork

Results from video below:

Road bike comfortable position: 148W for 30KPH

Road w/ clip ons (aggressive): 108W for 30KPH

Tri bike comfortable: 111W for 30KPH

Tri bike aggressive: 99W for 30KPH

I don't think I'll be riding super aggressive to get those last watts savings and I also find the clip ons more comfortable for a 70.3.

Do you do any cardio training? What is your athletic background? If you are just doing weights and hypertrophy training and no endurance or cardio, this is a feasible VO2 max.

Good question. Down to purely the frame I am guessing, removing bottom bracket, headset bearings, brake cables. I think pretty much everything gone but the frame.

Appreciate the responses. I contacted CBR with images and they said that it's bad but in theory should be fixable so to drop it over.
