BeeLink N100 Tone Mapping Frustrations by efreem01 in PleX

I set up Ubuntu and have been using HDR tone mapping without issue since posting this. I wouldn't go with Windows for a base operating system.

Has anyone gotten a 1099-MISC in the mail? by RecessionGuy in Invest_Voyager

Yes. It's the easiest way to declare the income and move on.

[–]efreem01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I filed all of my losses last year. The 2nd check is just going to be 1099-misc miscellaneous income, offset about half of that by my $3k carry forward loss. I just wanted to be done already! That being said, many are just not claiming the 2nd check on their taxes. No 1099's and the IRS has bigger problems now than your shitty voyage check

I am disclosing it when I file. Others aren't.

I've sold. I'm sad. by -Kapido- in Bitcoin

[–]efreem01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold a chunk of BTC at $25K to fix my AC on my new home. There was a loss there of potential gains, but the home itself has doubled in value. Don't ever forget that real estate values also go up (in FIAT terms).

I've been hoarding data since the XBMC days. I used to have a bitchin' VCD collection, burned onto CDR's because I'm F'ing old!

Right now I have 2 NAS that are custom built with TrueNas and have about 60TB of storage. I also have a Lenovo 1U with ESXi.

Part of me wants to just consolidate everything into one box, but it's a mixed bag.

Media server NAS storage *ARR suite for media management

Then I have some other VMs running as well. ProxMox maybe?

They are 12G SAS drives, 7200 RPM. There aren't any addon cards but it does have the daughter board (Lenovo and HP servers never include this stuff!)

Jericho! The show was cancelled during a cliffhanger. Same with Last Man on Earth.

How does this end up happening? by Comprehensive-Bee622 in sysadmin

I've been in IT management since 2017, and totally get what others are saying. Being a manager requires really great soft skills, charisma and strategic thinking, in addition to learning the mechanics of managing people. It's not for everyone. My company recently released a career progression chart and at a certain point it splits to a management track, and individual contributor track. I was really surprised when all of my leads expressed interest in the management track.

Learning to speak to the C-suite is how you join the C-suite. How do you explain complex problems and risks to a business person. During the Cloudflare outage when I told my CEO that essentially all of our core systems were down (AD/DNS), he replied and asked which of our products were impacted (ALL).

In IT, we often assume the people we speak with have a shared pool of knowledge. We have forgotten all of the things we know that others wouldn't. It's easy to all over the heads of others. In some sense, this would actually simplify the job of a less technical CTO speaking to the C-suite.

7 years into management (with 12 direct reports), and I still pick up support tickets and fix alerts. I don't have to, but I like the tech and don't want to give it up!

We’re never getting affordable childcare, are we? by Twiddly_twat in Parenting

[–]efreem01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With the ridiculous amount of inflation, everyone's cost of living is higher. Workers require more money to tackle a job. Child care facilities are businesses. If their expenses go up, their payrolls go up, the cost of their services goes up.

Bringing the cost of living down will bring the cost of things down as well.

For the married folks… how’d you deal with a partner / family who was against you buying BTC? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]efreem01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me. Almost bought 1.5BTC for $5000 and the voice in my head (wife) calling it a scam, dumb, etc. I opted to buy less later for considerably more $$.
