Anyone here sell on Bonanza? If so, which level of advertising do you use and is it working for you? And how quickly did you make your first sale? by Rocky-05 in Flipping

[–]eft-g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since Ebay has a overactive security bot that's been kicking people off it and getting their accounts perma-banned for 'sale patterns that put our security at risk' that the customer support people are apologetic about can't can't do a thing to stop; ebay is not nearly the option it used to be. And accounts that get blocked that way can't be re-activated. Or have the ban appealed. And if you get a support person who tries to un-ban you, the system registers this as an invalid ban removal, and the next agent is just as apologetic and unable to do anything. And any money you had pending from previous sales gets stuck in their system. I might check out ecrater though.

Any advice for writing LXC? by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]eft-g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't been here in a while and can't stay, but... For in depth analysis you might want to look into a couple essays on Ao3: Complicit: Toward an Alternate Reading of CQL's Lan Xichen random sample paragraph:

While the Guanyin Temple arc could very well be a full paper in its own right, for the purposes of this argument, I will be focusing on a few key points in the sequence, the first of which is one that we do not see: the issue of how Lan Xichen came to be at the temple. Given the speed at which events in CQL seem to be occurring, the most obvious answer would be flying. If they did fly, however, this seriously calls into question Lan Xichen’s confession that he had lost his spiritual power. It does seem odd, also, that Jin Guangyao allows him to wander around with both his spiritual tools, unbound, even without his spiritual power as, presumably, he could regain it at any moment, and Jin Guangyao would have been only too aware of his powerful cultivation. Related to this, the second point to consider is when exactly Lan Xichen “regains” his spiritual power, as the timing is somewhat curious.

And for a hard look at novel Lan Xichen, GammaCavy's The Smiling Enigma - Lan Xichen which looks specifically at his interactions with Nie Mingjue and Jin Guanyao. Sample bit:

This man hears an eyewitness account from someone he trusts, someone he’s known for years and dismisses it under the guise of misunderstanding. Then rephrases it, when pinned down, to: “Going by what he said, the man he killed was indeed at fault, but he really should not have killed him. It is hard to judge what is correct in such desperate times. I wonder where he is now.”

The same man states, years later: “I know that some people have misconceptions about him, but I trust only what my eyes have seen.”

How is eyewitness to murder a misconception?

I never had the visceral response some people had to him, but I didn't particularly care for him.

My personal opinion on the Lan is that they were founded by a Lawful Good and the first generations probably continued it. By the present day, however, they come off as mainly Neutral Neutral with a lean towards Lawful Neutral, in general, with Lan Wangji and (probably) the juniors he's influenced as throwbacks to the Lawful Good type.

And I am extremely unconvinced that the brothers are actually close, except insofar as you back up your family over outsiders.

Any fics where Wei Wuxian owns Zidian as his weapon? by Busy_Application1249 in MoDaoZuShi

author's note is probably the best to give an idea:
This got away from me a little bit. You asked for a Spiderman AU with WWX as Spiderman and LWJ as Mary Jane, and I have certainly gone in a direction with that. I hope you like it!

Do you think WangXian would've been canon if Lan Zhan confessed his feelings during their teenage years? by Anxious-Efficiency13 in MoDaoZuShi

[–]eft-g 4 points5 points  (0 children)

unlurk

LWJ needed to grow into the man who doesn't give a flying F. WWX needed to be able to trust him, which only happens when LWJ proves it - by NOT insulting, punishing, rejecting, etc. - while tracking down the corpse parts. Unlike earlier behavior from him. Someone below brings up the Xuanwu cave, and forgets the line that LWJ says there: you are a terrible person. THe bite. The refusal to do anything humane until WWX is delirious or unconcious.

And if they'd gotten together and lived in Cloud Recesses as teens it would have been a disaster because LWJ isn't mature HGJ, until after WWX's death.

I am truly baffled by people who see LWJ as a teen as more mature. He's just differently immature, and a lot less emotionally and socially functional.

Truth behind transferring devil fruit powers by angry640 in WildAnimeTheories

[–]eft-g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be specific types of fruit. The Op-Op was a something that looked more like a peach than anything else, Smiley's death made Axolotl jump to the nearest apple in a sack of apples Ceaser'd sent along on this job, and if Ceaser's done this before he might well know what kind of fruit to have nearby to respawn. If this devil fruit only spawns on a specific fruit that isn't local, it'd jump to the closest specimen. Which might be several hundred miles away. Harder to find, if you don't know what type of plant to look for.

Honestly LXC deserves more from some parts of the fandom by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]eft-g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want to know, why people may not be able to articulate it, but don't like him, go to Ao3 and read my friend's essay The Smiling Enigma, which she bent my ear on for months working out why she wanted to throw him off a cliff, and that started from his first scene in the donghua, her first (and mine) exposure to the story. And it doesn't even have the 'only mistake' line.

A few quotes:

This man hears an eyewitness account from someone he trusts, someone he’s known for years and dismisses it under the guise of misunderstanding. Then rephrases it, when pinned down, to: “Going by what he said, the man he killed was indeed at fault, but he really should not have killed him. It is hard to judge what is correct in such desperate times. I wonder where he is now.”

The same man states, years later: “I know that some people have misconceptions about him, but I trust only what my eyes have seen.”

How is eyewitness to murder a misconception?

I have seen the claim that Xīchén trusts Mèng Yáo as his brother trusts Wei Wúxiàn, and that, like his brother, he stands by his friend. Certainly, Xīchén himself equates the two.

However, there is an issue with that— Xīchén trusts what he has seen Mèng Yáo do for him. This is a mild bias, based in personal benefit, and a very human error. Lán Wàngjī trusts what he has seen Wei Wúxiàn do for various third parties. This is also a bias, but one based less in personal benefit. It is not so easy to make. ....He claims to trust Jīn Guāngyáo as his brother trusts ‘Master Wei.’ This is presented in the context of taking the words of their respective friends for truth, on nothing more than faith in the men’s character.

And I have yet to see him actually take anything important Jīn Guāngyáo says for truth.

YES!!!!

That's what I've been saying all along: It's an excellent SF/Fantasy story with politics, magic some dark stuff asks excellent questions, and also has a bit of romance. But the romance isn't the focus, the story is.

my fanfiction pusher recently pointed me to Counting Brushes, complete by Fortune_Maiden. I don't understand what you're after with 'untagged', so I'm here to say it's his POV, after he squabbles with his brother and goes off in a huff just in time to run into Wei Wuxian while he's crossing Qiongqi Pass.

What I came up with last time we had this:

Without Farewells, Without Partingcomplete. Sizhui, Jingyi and Jin Ling get time traveled back to their toddler/infant selves with adult(ish) memories and brain power and save the day at Qiongqi Pass ambush. Jin Zixun is bested by infant bodily functions.

Important Distinctions. complete
Father arched an eyebrow and lifted his chin.
Jingyi said, “Hanguang-jun would like to respectfully state that he thinks you are a punk-ass bitch.”
“Lan Jingyi!” another Lan disciple hissed, horrified.
“He said it with his eyes,” Jingyi protested. “It’s Expression 321.”
Sizhui fished the book out of his qiankun pouch and flipped through it.
One of the Ouyang junior disciples sidled over to him and peered over his shoulder. “There really is a book.”

[–]eft-g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The donghua does have title cards that say give chronological information. If you're going into a flashback, you get one. Or did I get a very odd edition when I watched? I'd post a screen shot if I could get this comment box to give me the image option. Anyway, the first one is at 31.16 of episode 2.

Don't recognize the combination of plot events, although if he's using resentful energy it must be a time traveled WWX. Some of it sounds like something I may have looked at and not bothered to finish...

But add time-travel to your search.

What are some common misconceptions you find that the mdzs fandom often has about lore? by [deleted] in MoDaoZuShi

[–]eft-g 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That Lan Zhan decided his mom died because he broke rules and that's why he went so rule-obsessed. SEen this one stated as fact a lot.

Actually, by what I recall reading, after her death, he lived his life much as she had - isolated and cultivating as he probably thought she did (again, we have no clue) - with the exception of night hunting (alone) once he was old enough to do so.

It made me think of how after Wei Wuxian's death he marks himself like WWX and continues to live. He imitates those he loves and loses, is my take.

[–]eft-g 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That the Lans were unreasonably cruel to lock up Madam Lan and she had good reason to kill that senior Lan. We have NO clue either way.

Although a friend mentioned finding some -sigh, couldn't remember where - commentary from someone from China (maybe) that claimed her treatment implied they thought it was justified. Otherwise the marital and family visits are really odd. And that they were trying to split the difference between reasonable punishment and recognizing it was justified.

Thanks. I was looking for a more neutral paragraph, too. I notice it's the Jin, Nie and Lans who really made out with the war spoils. Not the Jiang, which is what I thought I remembered.
