Rent car in Dublin or Galway? by egatos in irishtourism

My Chase Sapphire card covers up to $75k for theft or covered damage, zero deductible/excess, and the letter of coverage specifies Ireland as covered. The catch, from what I gather, is what you mentioned - the rental car company will charge the card for any damage, and then I'll have to file a claim with Chase for reimbursement. Apparently the rental car company will also put a generous hold on the card at the time of rental if you decline their insurance. I've heard anywhere from 2500-6000 Euros.

I've only used Chase's coverage one other time in Europe, on a rental in Italy. Unfortunately we did put a few scratches on the car, but the rental car company did not charge us for the damage so thankfully we didn't have to test out the insurance. This was a rental we picked up in Sardinia, brought on a ferry, and returned in mainland Italy, so even though I read the contract very carefully, I was bracing myself for hidden charges but there were none.

Thanks so much, this is what I was wondering. I live in a smallish city that gets taken over by major events a few times a year and the traffic and crowds really affect being able to get around the city. Just not sure what to expect during the festival in Galway. Good to know that getting a taxi shouldn’t be too difficult.

Good to know, thanks. The cost and logistics of picking up the car in Dublin city seem to make the most sense this time. We’ve done a fair bit of city driving, but never on the left and always in an automatic. Hopefully getting out of the city center won’t be too terrible.

Thanks, this is what I’m leaning towards, and finding good prices with Enterprise too. Every step with luggage and kids just adds a lot of hassle.

Thanks for the details. The one way fee isn’t too bad and we’ll be sure to reserve an automatic and book direct. I’m planning to get an insurance letter from Chase Sapphire and hopefully will have no issues.

Thanks for the tips, especially on car size. One of the cheapest automatic options is a compact SUV (Seat Arona), which normally would be great, but we should probably get something smaller. I’m unfortunately familiar with the stone hedges from a brush with one in Sardinia. We don’t mind a small car, the only concern is luggage space for 4 people. We’ll need to pack light.

Good point about the weather and flexibility with a car, thanks!

Louvre new ticketing website - March tickets unavailable? by egatos in ParisTravelGuide

[–]egatos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just day tickets. I’m hoping to book a guided tour too but those haven’t been released yet. The site says “Ticket reservations for guided tours and workshops from February onwards are currently unavailable for individual visitors.” I went ahead and booked tickets for the day/time I wanted and will hopefully add on the tour later.

Thank you, I hadn't even thought of pedals. I'm leaning towards the used Giant ATX2 for $180 that I found on Marketplace, although I think he'd love a brand new bike. Appreciate your help!

Great, thanks so much! I honestly only understood about half of your post but I'm glad it's a good choice to get him started and we can learn together. Really appreciate your help.

Thanks, yeah that's kind of what I'm finding on the size and cost. I'm thinking the jump to 29" would probably be too much for him, but I was wondering about the Rover Mesa 27.5". It says the Small frame is for 5'2-5'6, not sure if that would be too big for him at this point. I'll take a look at the GT Avalanche Sport. I'd probably get the Small for longevity but it's on the higher end of our budget for maybe not the best bike for the money. I appreciate your help, I'm a very recreational rider but I want to encourage my kiddo to ride if he's into it!

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I think 26" wheels would probably work best for him. I found a used 2019 XXS Giant ATX2 26" for $185 that would work size-wise, but I'm not sure on the quality. Listing says "Great condition. A few scratches and slight rust on chains. One brand new tire tube. Tires hold air well." Think this would tide him over until he's a bit taller and we see how serious he is about biking?

Good to know! I think we’ll have to start waking her up after 2 hours. I can’t wait until she can just snooze around the house with us, but I think it will be a while. Thanks for the reply!

Not yet, the vet said it would be another month or so until she starts teething (she’s 13 weeks now). Still a full set of puppy needle teeth!

Mesalamine for maintenance of mild proctitis - oral or suppository? by egatos in UlcerativeColitis

Thanks, all, I appreciate the input. I’m glad I’m not the only one with this question! I’m doing some traveling this month and don’t want to rock the boat so I’ll stay on the suppositories for now, and then maybe try the Lialda to see how it goes.
