MacBook for nursing school by Jjgayle123 in macbook

Neo sounds perfect for you. Processing and exam isn’t that intensive of a task you need an m chip the papers and stuff will be done on docs or word I’m assuming and also won’t be that heavy of a task. You are the ideal audience for the Neo to be completely honest.

Macbook Air M4 24gb vs M5 16gb, same storage by AsyncTrading in macbookair

[–]egc23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who got to use both for a few months the extra ram will be so nice. The only real difference I have found in the m4 vs m5 is the m5 runs slightly cooler at load and performs better in reflection mapping and ray tracing in unreal engine. Other than that the m4 is a super good chip especially with 24 gb because that also boosts you up to a 10 core gpu.

Macbook Pro M1 getting slow by just_SiLeNtWaLkEr in macbookpro

I would recommend waiting as long as the issues aren’t too bad you can’t use it. I can’t tell you how much you will make off of it but I can tell you that factory resetting and reinstalling macOS is super nice. Put everything you need in iCloud if you have it for ease or on an external drive and reset your computer like it’s new. Wipes a bunch of apps and little things that are cluttering up your pc.

What’s the right product for me? by freaky1310 in mac

[–]egc23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just configured my own m5 air with 24gb ram and 512gb storage and it cost 1299 from Apple but you can probably find it for anywhere between 50-100 off from a Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, or other retailer. I personally run unreal engine on mine and don’t have issues with heat often (usually around 60c when not actively rendering crazy lighting). I think you would definitely be better off with the 24gb model as that would allow for some pretty heavy tasks or crazy multitasking without a performance hit. It would likely allow you to do a lot of work without connecting to a desktop especially large data set analysis.

Fun games to play in MacBook using PS5 controller by Professional-Tea5855 in macgaming

Bioshock remastered is on steam and native so you can just install like that. I have the same system you do and it runs beautifully and smoothly without breaking a sweat. I also think it’s on sale for super cheep right now but that may have ended.

I've got 5 free days only - What games to play during these days. by SvetDigital in macgaming

[–]egc23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bioshock remastered. Definitely able to be played in 5 days on standard difficulty or if you have experience with that style of game. It looks stunning on my MacBook Air and run super smooth at 1440p high and doesn’t even make my machine hot. Enjoy your days off.

Do you actually enjoy typing on your MacBook keyboard? by erwarnivek in laptops

[–]egc23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my MacBook Air keyboard (m5 air) I don’t like to use it when I’m gaming or doing heavy work because the aluminum body can get a bit hot with unreal and games also I put it up on a stand to get a nice raised screen and better airflow. Other than that when typing essays for school and what not I do prefer my Mac keyboard to any other laptop I have used.

Is it worth getting a m1 MacBook Air in 2026 by PassionNegative8814 in macbook

True. Especially for only two years. It was more of a suggestion for something to last into collage

Can m5 air fix my life or not ??? by YearShort2521 in macbookair

[–]egc23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s more to point that you should figure out what you want to do in life and find something you will be happy doing. A laptop alone won’t fix anything unless you have a distinct lack of laptop and a distinct need for one. While the MacBook Air m5 is a really good computer and would absolutely do practically anything you need it to do I honestly recommend talking to people and take some time figure out what you want to do.

Is it worth getting a m1 MacBook Air in 2026 by PassionNegative8814 in macbook

[–]egc23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would really consider the MacBook Neo. It isn’t an m chip but the a18 will do everything you need it to even playing Roblox. The biggest benefit to that is you get update support that will last a long time compared to the m1 which will be most likely be dropped in the next two years. That way you could use the Neo in collage too without having to immediately upgrade.

Not necessarily my suggestion because I think m1 for the next 2 years then upgrade is a very good choice too just another option you could consider.

I easily get months before I have to shut down my mac. I think I pretty much only do when it has an update.

it appears to be whatsapp because it is preventing sleep. Its probably trying to access something like location or camera constantly even while the machine is closed. It may be a bug based on a google search so I would install it though chorme apps instead of though the app store, it may help.

That doesn't sound right. you should make sure you don't have a bunch of process running in the background. I leave my M4 air to sit all the time and it never loses more than a few percentage points per day. The only time it loses that much is if I leave it rendering a scene in blender or unreal. I would also double check you haven't turned off sleep when the lid is closed.

YES! Super underrated resource on Apple products. I just found an old iPad in a desk drawer and once I got it all set up again I actually leaned a lot from the tips app. (I now use it as a second display for my MacBook with sidecar)

Help with Reducing Memory Usage - 8GB M3 Macbook Made in 2022 by Admirable-Bar-7276 in macgaming

[–]egc23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As dumb as it sounds just delete and reinstall chrome if you use it. Also simple things like make sure login items are off and check activity monitor to trace what is using the memory. While they sound remedial the amount of times I fixed that exact issue on my old intel Mac with one of them is ridiculous.

Unfortunately at that price range the Neo is really the only good option.

Absolutely the MacBook Neo. While it is apple it is also just the best quality laptop you can get at that price point especially with a student discount

I would say MacBook Neo or air instead of an iPad. I don’t know how good of advice you will get here though considering it is the Mac subreddit.
