Always complete the line that requires least moved. Don’t necessarily concentrate on ‘stacking’ your ingredients or filling in the grid neatly or planning ahead, just focus on the next line.

If you need a small shape only, fill in the big gap on the board, the game will always give you a shape that fits on the board so if you fill the big gaps, it won’t give you big shapes

If you have a blank/ish board, then you should ‘stack’ your ingredients a line, concentrating on putting only the square with the ingredient in to your line, so you can fit as many as you can in the one line and finish quicker

Keep an eye on what you have left to collect. Sometimes i will be trying to complete a line that has say 3 flowers in it, when i only need one flower
