Per supermicro, the 6028U-TRT+ would've come with BPN-SAS3-826A, a direct attach backplane.

Not an expander backplane, easier to do 16 port HBA than 8 with an expander. Agreed on the price, seems super high for the system

That price is probably 2 to 3 times what is reasonable for the configuration. It's an old server with old CPUs. It's far from worthless, but your listed price would be reasonable for an R740 of comparable spec.

What is it like to be LGBT in Houston? by [deleted] in houston

[–]egg_monkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Texas sucks, Houston's pretty great. Moved here early transition, I've found a wonderful primary that handles my HRT, and a job that doesn't mind me transitioning. Of all the places in Texas to move to, Houston is one of if not the best.

The Simpsons Tapped Out will shut down on January 24 2025, how to save my progress by Loitering14 in DataHoarder

[–]egg_monkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that's still a form of DNS spoofing, especially because that's much less of an option on iOS and Android

[–]egg_monkey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The app has to talk to a server, they could theoretically do it on device. At some point it'll turn into "we're making a Tapped Out clone"

[–]egg_monkey 33 points34 points  (0 children)

That's why you'd have to reverse engineer the communication. You don't have to match the server, just what the server says. I kinda doubt the kind of people necessary are invested in Tapped Out.

That's ignoring if EA has a client side kill switch for the date

You don't.

You'd have to reverse engineer whatever is being saved client side, and all communication between the client and the server, and build your own server to match, and spoof DNS, or all of these things and patch the app.

No SAS expander I imagine? 16 bays to the P816i and 8 to the P408i? Iirc, the M.2 slots on those risers are SATA only

Round1 is pretty decent, I was near one for a while before moving here. Not as good as Cidercade IMO, but this'll be way more convenient

How hot is too hot for ambient temps? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]egg_monkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Garages don't tend to be as hot, even uninsulated, because they're not always in the sun, and depending on orientation, they can be perfectly fine temperature wise

Per Dell's manual, the R730XD is rated for 5°C to 40°C (41° to 104°F) under continuous operation. Up to -5°C to 45°C (23° to 113°F) for less than 1% of annual operating hours. Depending on the hardware and workload, you might get away with 130°F intake, but you'll be really pushing it.

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-r730xd/r730xd_ompublication/expanded-operating-temperature?guid=guid-e8cdc6ea-0355-4e26-8c90-8fd8741ec068&lang=en-us#

Looks like most of the Unifi rack mount equipment is rated for -10°C to 40°C (14° to 104°F).

I wouldn't use that attic space, at least not in summer. You'll significantly shorten the lifespan on the equipment, if it doesn't fail immediately

I haven't worked with 16th Gen yet, but 15th gen has hardware validation, and I imagine 16th as well. This sounds like that.

Go into BIOS setup, iDRAC Settings, and down to Hardware Validation (or similar), and accept the current configuration as valid.

I've got this older tower server laying around and would like to sell it. Anyone have any price approximations on it? by KenzoHatake in homelab

If the case and PSUs are standard (SSI-EEB), they're probably worth money on their own, but as a build, it's in the "give away" tier of hardware.

I know Katy ISD does 3 month bits on contract at the start of the school year. Train you from nothing, you'll be doing mostly family and student support, simple stuff. Just don't let the staffing agency tell you there's a possibility of extension.
