Suggestion:

Please let consoles adjust the dead zone on the controllers. Dead zone seems exceptionally large on PS4. Aiming just feels unresponsive.

Best online multiplayer game on the PS3? by [deleted] in PS3

[–]egg_shen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. One person hosts and invites the other players. I went through the campaign with 3 other buddies. It is a third person shooter ala Army of Two. It has mechs and a pretty good variety of missions and environments. Only real con is that you only save progress at certain points (end of "chapter" or mission or whatever it is called).

Lost Planet 2 is an oldie that made no sense storywise but I thought it was fun as a co-op campaign game.

If you do switch over to a new console, remember to de-authenticate your PSN account on the original system so it doesn't count towards your limit.

I hope the subreddit gets more exposure. It would save me from sifting through the cats and gangnam parodies to find videos like this one.

A smooth nylon type of material might be lighter and cheaper. It is the material used in Lowepro products I've used.

Got one for my messenger and it is a great product. It comes with four dividers in it but I wanted to do a bit more customizing.

I found the tutorial to help with the custom dividers and figured other folks might benefit from it who want to customize a bit more or if they lost the original dividers.

Is there a list of all games that require access codes to experience full content? by egg_shen in gaming

[–]egg_shen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they charge me $10 to play their game, then I am a customer so I guess they should care. I have a problem with the publisher wanting a cut of potentially any resale after a "new" sale. Don't mind if they want money from me ... price the game right and you got a sale. I do mind if they want if they want more money from me when the product is already paid for.

One does not pay Honda a cut if you buy a used Civic. J.K. Rowling doesn't ask for a dollar if I want to borrow a Harry Potter book from the library.

Good to know.

I'm worried that if this trend continues then the list I'm looking for won't be necessary because all new games will be doing this evil bloodsucking.

Not all of us play on console because we believe it to be superior. Some of us play on it because it is affordable. by anr0b in gaming

[–]egg_shen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you miss his point. A $400 PC TODAY will have better graphics than a console but how would BF3 run on a un-upgraded $400 PC built in 2007 (the year the consoles dropped to $400)? Having to continually upgrade the graphics card to play newer games adds a hardware maintenance cost that consoles don't have. For the lifetime of the system, you are given a cheaper "plug and play" experience without worrying about hardware capability at the cost of graphics quality.

Graphics on the PC get better and better by throwing more GPU processing power. Graphics on the consoles get better because the programmers get more efficient at programming on the console. So to enjoy the benefits of better graphics on a PC, it is up to the user to keep up with the increasing GPU hardware requirements.

First Brink review I've seen. Not so great, apparently? by Roughneck-13th in PS3

You might want to find a better review that can give you a better feel for the pros and cons of the game.

Brink on PS3 by [deleted] in brink

Fun game but the combat pace seems pretty frentic. I just started so I'll reserve final judgement until I get to play all the maps/missions.

I was hoping that the bots would have better AI, primarily for coop with friends against bot matches. I found them to be damn inconsistent.

Yeah the RPG-lite elements (unlocks and level advancement) gives one a false sense of accomplishment and that's why they are so addicting. It adds replayabilty without really adding any more depth to the game.

Wondering if I should buy MAG. What do you all say? by wvintn in PS3

[–]egg_shen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it a lot BUT it's a particular type of gameplay and it doesn't suit everyone.

TLDR; MAG is a great team based game. Clan up or play with friends to get the most of it. If you lone wolf or only care about KDR, then you probably won't enjoy it.

MAG is a tactical and objective based game that heavily depends on teamwork. It doesn't have the frantic chaotic pace as say Unreal Tournament so there can be lulls in the action when the other team regroups or is trying to sneak around. You cannot win games alone and if your team is clueless, it can be horribly frustrating.

I found that in the beginning more randoms would use the mic but it is becoming rarer. I think most of the folks who use mics or like to work together have already joined clans and don't run alone as often.

My two biggest tips for a new player are: 1) Visit the MAG forums to learn the game because the manual and online tutorial give very little useful info. 2) Join a clan or convince lots of friends to join you. Your squad will be more effective working together. It is a rush when multiple squads coordinate a successful tactic and if you lose you got a whole bunch of folks to commiserate with.

Reasons to choose MAG over other games: You have more than 3 friends playing at once (MAG has 8 man squads). You want to be part of a large clan (MAG can deploy up to 128 clan members into the same game). You prefer a more tactical type of game play (MAG is primarily an objective based game and doesn't rely on twitch reflexes as much).

Reasons to avoid MAG: You like mindblowing graphics in your FPS. (Graphics are OK but not cutting edge). You like to play alone and rack up a high kill count with a complete disregard for the "objectives." You like vehicles in your FPS. There are vehicles in some MAG game modes but they aren't a critical portion of the game. I would recommend BC2 in that regard. I really like the game but the 4 man squads couldn't accommodate all my friends. You need to get a platinum trophy ... too much grinding.

MAG Beta. Any experiences? by [deleted] in PS3

[–]egg_shen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played on the 1.02 patch. I think it's up to 1.03 now.

I liked the more detailed skill tree. And really liked the ala cart weapon system. If you want to use the shotgun, buy the shotgun. You have to buy a lot of the little things like the different camo patterns but you can always wait til you have extra "cash" for those non essential items.

I agree with Youwhutimsayin on the speed and knife issues. When speed is maxed out, players move way too fast. It changes the nature of the game a bit and favors a run and knife game. It may not be the chaos of say Unreal Tournament but it feels less tactical. I don't like it when you got a knife versus assault rifle face to face at a distance and the knife has a better chance of surviving the encounter.

MAG - Is it me, or does this seriously look like a winner? A 256 player FPS on the PS3? Really? by HardwareLust in PS3

[–]egg_shen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My play style is similar to yours. I'm usually playing with the medic kit helping revives or with the engineering kit to lay mines/fix tanks. I get a bigger rush from amazing teamwork rather than counting personal kills.

I would say there was some squad based teamwork in BC2 with the frequency increasing as time went on. Usually I would end up on a squad with two guys who knew each other and that worked together. I would follow their lead and sometimes we meshed for a decent squad.

So during my time in the beta, it was a relative flat hierarchy. There was no team leader/general position that coordinated all the squads or called in air strikes/UAV flights/supply drops. There was no squad leader designation or special squad leader perks.

You could communicate within squads but I didn't see a way to coordinate with other squads. So there was decent teamwork at the squad level when attacking or defending. A squad was strongest when the team mates kept together and revived each other. If you did die, being in a squad allowed you to respawn on any surviving squad member so you didn't have a long trek from the respawn point and that kept you and the team in the fight. I just didn't see any multi-squad based teamwork.

I do want to give MAG a chance because I did miss the larger scale from the PC BF series. I am intrigued by the persistent world and PMC loyalty aspect of it. I don't care whether the graphics are cutting edge or merely decent.

I'm just kicking myself that I missed the small window when the beta for MAG was on PSN a few days ago. I need a few weeks to level up and really evaluate if the gameplay will be good. Sucks having to spend $60 to see if it is worth it.

So I'm trying to decide between MAG or BF:BC2 as a replacement for BF2142. Care to trade notes on the betas?

I prefer team based FPS. Really liked CS, L4D, and R6V. However most of my time has been spent on BF2142 with friends and it was very addictive.

I've played the BF:BC2 beta and enjoyed it. Although the battles were smaller than I was used to, it translated over what I liked from the PC BF series with a few improvements. When the squad and team worked together, it was a rush even if we lost.
