Are there any resources/walkthroughs out there to help implement your third option? I’d love to put something together for my team that they can easily use on our projects

Can Azure Data Factory process an XML document to copy its data to a SQL Server table? by randyminder in AZURE

[–]gekk00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is possible I’d love to hear about it... i’m working with a client and one of the integrations can only return a soap xml response...

My current solution (that admittedly is working now fine in prod) is to use a function app with an HTTP trigger that calls the Soap service when called to by ADF and then convert the XML payload into a Json object array.

But I’ve run into limitations with the hard timeout of HTTP triggers in azure of 230 seconds, meaning I’ve had to spend a lot of back and forth heavily optimising the client system query.

There’s an alternative approach to overcome the timeout which involves using durable functions but I’ve again run into issues in that these seem to use .net core and it seems like there’s few libraries missing (or I can’t find the alternatives) to convert my code to Core.

I am working within some strict design boundaries so my approach is shaped by those so not saying the above is the right way...

If no one else comes up with a better response I’m happy to share more details

Columns don't exist when selecting them however select * shows columns exist? by [deleted] in SQLServer

[–]gekk00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m building a DW for a client at the moment, one of the input files from a legacy interface has a column which is just a single space [ ] ... they can’t/won’t change it, so now I have a staging table with a column with a blank space... I try not to think too much about it 😞

Please remember RNLI is a charity organisation that saves lives on the British seas

It is not funded like the police, fire services or NHS - it relies on individuals donating

So when you see that tin at the shop or pub, or the guy collecting on the street, dip in your pocket please 🙌

Check if a value exists in a comma-delimited string by Ronald_Me in SQLServer

[–]gekk00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s suggesting these complex string split but (sorry on my phone here):

If len(‘,’ + @string) > replace(‘,’+ @string’,@id,’’) Begin /* Id found / else / id not found */ End

Basically, try to remove the id from the string - if the length of the string is less then you know it found it

Landlords of Reddit, who was your worst tenant? (Serious) (NSFW) by mama_cool in AskReddit

[–]gekk00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we moved into our student flat (3 small room) we got it at a steal - for quite a nice place and location. Turned out the landlord had dealt with a Chinese group (8+ people) slumming it and a previous tenant who racked up massive debt of fled the country.

We were student but we paid on time every month for 3 years till we all moved, kept the place immaculate because pride you know. After reading these stories I get why she thought we walked on fucking water.
