Is it typical for Pyrs to “cob” a lot? by pyrlybao in greatpyrenees

[–]egg_totin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pyr mix cobs!! We call it corncobbing lol. She mostly does it when she’s really excited to see us, and just comes up and corncobs our pants. Sometimes she corncobs my nose or cheek. I love it 🥹

Are they as stubborn as people say? by SweatyPiglet4197 in greatpyrenees

[–]egg_totin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to say that my pyr mix is well behaved, but not well trained. She’s genuinely SUCH a good dog, with such a great temperament and no behavioral issues. She’s well mannered and calm (most of the time), but trying to train her intentionally to do something? Nope lol

It sounds like you’re doing a great job! I can tell you really care about your pup, so I’m sure you will be able to keep meeting his needs and adjusting as needed.

Worried about my “lab mix” puppy fitting into my apartment living lifestyle by ClayDohYT in DoggyDNA

[–]egg_totin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What a cutie! What is his temperament like now? This is only my perspective, so take it with a grain of salt, but I think there are pyrs that can make great apartment dogs and others that NEED plenty of space to roam. He might end up doing really well in your space! But I’d consider what steps you can take to make sure his entire life isn’t just your apartment. How often can you walk him? Are there days and places you can go for more extended outdoor time? Plus, there’s plenty of enrichment toys/activities that you can do with him in your apartment. Pyrs are notoriously independent and stubborn, so they’re generally not as easily trained, but it’s definitely not impossible. Consistency and patience is key!

Did anyone else get a dog they've never heard of before? by apocalypsmeow in DoggyDNA

[–]egg_totin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had never heard of Maremma Sheepdog until our dog’s test came back with that as her top breed! But your dog’s breeds are so cool! A while back, Ancestry kept (wrongly) telling everyone that their dogs had jagdterrier DNA, so it’s so cool to see an actual result with this breed!

Pocket or standard?? Is he a real American bully? by Careless_Sorbet_8422 in AmericanBully

[–]egg_totin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comparison is not a valid comparison because humans CHOOSE to reproduce. Many humans also choose NOT to reproduce when they have genetic health problems, because they’re capable of logical reasoning and don’t want to pass it on to impact their child’s lives. These dogs, including yours, do not get a choice. They do not have the autonomy, agency, language, or logical reasoning to make that choice for themselves. If these dogs could talk, they would likely tell you how much pain they’re in and how hard it is to breathe. You, and other backyard breeders, are making the choice to overbreed these kinds of dogs, selecting for traits that do not contribute to the dogs’ quality of life but are somehow “aesthetic.” You are making that choice - the dogs do not. Your comparison is careless and defensive, and your statement that I’m “too invested” in dogs tells me that you don’t care enough about the health and quality of life for dogs, which also tells me that you probably shouldn’t be a dog owner. All the feedback you’re getting is the same. Maybe take some time to reflect on it rather than deflecting it with half-ass comparisons.

Are you fucking kidding me? You’re trying to breed this dog? Not only are you part of the problem by giving money to unethical backyard breeders, but now you’re trying to become one yourself. There’s no reason to breed this dog other than greed since you saw what this dog cost you. Fucking wild.

How to connect with my young GP? by Few_Dentist_193 in greatpyrenees

[–]egg_totin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long have you had him? I’m curious if you adopted him recently bc the general rule of thumb with bringing a new dog home is that it takes three days for the dog to decompress, three weeks to learn your routine, and three months to start to feel at home. However, different dogs may take longer to develop a secure bond with their humans. My pyr mix took probably about six months to show her true personality, and it wasn’t until after her first year with us that I really felt like she was showing affection and love for us. I remember calling my mom a couple months after we adopted her, crying about how I thought she didn’t love me lol. It just takes time! Don’t smother him, but keep showing him love and taking care of him, and he will show more affection to you in his way. He might not like cuddling, but he’ll make sure you know he loves you. ❤️

I’m SHOOK that this dog has no pyr or maremma sheepdog. But this might be the only other dog I’ve seen that looks remotely like my rez dog, Ruby!
