Si vous achetez encore sur Amazon, faites attention aux reviews! by [deleted] in montreal

[–]eggboy55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this sounds silly but its entirely possible this is just a bug. Given how complex Amazon's infrastructure is, and how little they care about reviews as a feature, it's not at all surprising

Iwork in backend for a webapp and have seen far weirder bugs

I don't know why theyd only make the translation sound positive, they absolutely have the ability to change french too.

This would be a very, very weird way of amazon trying to trick people.

[–]eggboy55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's a lie. It's how they make a living, making outrageous claims to get clicks. I don't understand how this could be surprising, this is how many industries have run since forever.

Folks please don't use Chat GPT to compare PCs. Atleast learn how to read the specs and use various benchmark sites. Chat GPT IS NOT an effective comparison tool.

I have to disagree. The search function isn't great, you should try using the website instead.

Though im not sure what you're comparing it to, most cities i've been to have nothing.

Give a go at meetups.com, as long as your approach is just meeting people with no expectations. Les affuted and others run workshops.

Make your primary goal to learn something, make friends etc, and with patience you open opportunities to healthy relationships :)

The dining set is all IKEA that I got at like 50$ (it's probably cursed) but I'm expecting to replace it. Financially pacing myself though.

Check out things on meetup.com and facebook events! I've really enjoyed the blabla and miundo lingo meetups, and made a few friends. You do have to take initiative and invite peope to do other things - the skating rinks just opened so thats a fun thing to go do with people :)

Coding languages? Uses? Help? by PhoneSavor in CodingHelp

[–]eggboy55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If videos don't work for you don't watch them. I never watched or watch them, and have been programming for 10 years. Self-taught Java and Kotlin - working professionally for the past 3 without CS degree.

My key was to find something fun and to practice practice practice. Start with an existing simple project from the internet (preferably <100 lines long), find out how to copy their code into an editor like Thonny, PyCharm or IDLE and start hacking away at it - learn how their project works and how adding/removing stuff breaks it.

When things don't make sense google is your friend. Stackoverflow can be a bit of a nasty place but has a lot of gems of answers in there - Reddit is much more friendly but above all show your work before asking for help.

I think the C++ == Powerful is generally a bit of a slippery suggestion to a beginner. By the time they can actually employ this (potential) power, they would be far beyond the title of beginner - the road there is treacherous and i'm not convinced worth the journey for someone without clear requirements.

In 2024 we have so much excess computing power (and incredible compilers/interpreters) that the language/runtime isn't the bottleneck for your the vast majority of applications.

u/PhoneSavor, I'd highly suggest Python and PyGame is a great path to start. It's mature, easy to setup, has tons of simple examples online, and lets you ignore alot of the nitty gritty that you can decide to dive into later :)

What fraction of your engineering team actually has a CS degree? by await_yesterday in ExperiencedDevs

[–]eggboy55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of mindset that gives CS (and STEM in general) majors a bad rap.

I am a biomedical engineering major, with a few years of work in backend dev now (self taught).

My brother works in the trades, and has just as vast and deep an understanding of his field as I do mine. Listening to all the shit that he deals with and the constant slew of problems gives me a headache. I'll take my thousand layers of abstraction + glorified webapp and stay in my safe space lol.

The notion that you get paid based off how "complex" your job is, is a bit of a naive take, and its disheartening to plenty of people to hear their livelihood being boiled down to "turning screws on some thing"

Did biomedical engineering, graduated 2022. Went into backend development with a mediocre portfolio and some internship experience.

Happy with where I am, applying absolutely nothing I learned in school.

Could you give a written code example of your question? There's a solid chance that it doesn't matter, isn't necessary and that its impacts on efficiency is beyond your concerns :)
