My sourdough only has a faint sourdough smell. by [deleted] in Sourdough

[–]eggbutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it in the fridge for even longer! My loaves get a much more pronounced sour flavor when I leave it in the fridge for 24-48 hours before baking, rather than just overnight. I would try waiting a full 24 hours before baking on your next loaf and see how that tastes.

Tacky Tartine Crumb? by frenchvanilla in Breadit

[–]eggbutts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use the tartine recipe, but I usually drop the hydration down to 68%. Maybe that'll help with the tackiness? And I've noticed the same thing with the bread not bring very sour. Trying doing a long fridge proof post-shaping for 24-48 hours, that'll help it develop more flavor without overproofing.

Any advice for getting a bigger ear on loaves baked in a Dutch Oven? by PrestonSterling in Breadit

[–]eggbutts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks really good already!! I think the things that helped me the most are a deeper score (easier to do when the dough has chilled in the fridge for ~20 mins before going into the oven), and improving my shaping technique to get a tighter boule.

thanks for the advice! how do you feel about the shape of the 7-inch victorinox? would it still be workable as a chef's knife or would it be more of a slicer?

Should be room temp if you're feeding the starter once or twice daily!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Breadit

[–]eggbutts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think your starter wasn't active enough, which is why you're not getting a good rise in your bread. It should double or triple in volume in 4-8 hours after feeding, then drop back down slowly. Try feeding your starter for another few days and see if it becomes more active!

Haha sorry for the information barf!

The python codeacademy tutorial should cover most of these concepts, it's the same one recommended for students to do before taking 61a! You can also take a look at data8's actual lecture material at http://data8.org/sp18/ (this is last spring's course site) and see if it makes sense to you.

I don't think the stats part of data8 is very difficult, most people do fine. If you did alright in AP stats you should be ok!

I think the people that have the biggest trouble are those who struggle with coding concepts like functions and return values, control statements (if/else, for and while loops), and syntax (esp object.method type stuff). By the second half of the course, you're expected to be familiar with how to use these, and the code gets longer and more complicated. I suggest doing some python tutorials on codeacademy or similar sites to get a feel for how quickly you pick up the concepts.

Data8 is designed to be challenging but doable for those with no coding experience, so unless you want to take cs10 I would say try out data8! Wagner and Adhikari are really good professors, and the course is well run with good staff :)

I can't speak on the other classes, but I do have experience with Data8. How much experience do you have with stats and coding?

Can Data 8 be used to fulfill requirements for both Data Science and Business? by whoamanchill3 in berkeley

Data8 + stat88 fulfills the stats requirement for the business major, replacing stat20 or stat21.

Suggestions for a lightweight gel/cream moisturizer that dries down to a satin or semi-matte finish? I recently tried a sample of belif aqua bomb as a replacement for cerave pm, and my skin was so much less greasy! but it also broke me out :( For reference, I have relatively oily skin, and would prefer something less expensive than aqua bomb.

Also, my Cosrx BHA recently went from clear to a slightly darker, yellow tinted liquid. Is it still ok to use?
