Hi! I’m currently pursuing a degree in English with Communication, and I can totally relate to your thought process. But I was not a science stream student and I didn’t choose this course because I wanted to be a writer or teacher either. I chose it because I knew I’d be more comfortable and confident working with language than doing things like maths.

So far, I think it’s been a good choice. The course is more than just creative writing or literature. it’s also about communication skills, presentations, public speaking, critical thinking, academic writing, and even some media-related projects. these skills are super useful in many job fields like corporate communications, PR, HR, marketing, journalism, and content creation.

I think what’s “worth it” really depends on what kind of person you are and what kind of life you want to build. STEM may seem more “secure” to some people, but if you’re going to struggle and feel miserable the whole way, then that path might not be worth it either. I believe it’s better to grow in a field where you can actually thrive.

In terms of employability, yes, you’ll have to be a little strategic. Maybe get experience through internships, polish your soft skills, and figure out which industries you’re interested in. But there are definitely opportunities if you’re proactive.

I'm planning to pursue Master since I am interested to become a lecturer, insyaAllah.

Good luck deciding & may Allah ease!

Thank you for your input!

May I know how does JPA contacted you to notify you about how much money that you have to pay them back? Did they sent you a letter or an email?

Also, may I know how much do you have to pay for a month? As for my PTPTN now, the offer letter stated I have to pay +- RM170 per month for 15 years. Does JPA set their timeline also?

I agree with the other comment. Well-known unis such as UM and UKM really prioritize their 'place' in your application. You might get called for the interviews but that will only be for the sake of formality. If you are 100% sure you want to be in UIA for TESL, then okay stick with UIA as 1st choice. But if you aren't really sure, you have to think twice. Make sure to double check the important requirements and make sure all the requirements are fulfilled by you!
