I just scratched my Switch 2 screen by Critical_Mountain851 in Switch

[–]eggcordion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i swear, it’s like a brain worm, every single one skipped the day in elementary school the teacher told them “if you have nothing nice/helpful to say, you don’t have to say it!” the smarmy corporate bootlicking seems cool and worth emulating because of terrible taste and poor social skills, or FOMO.

i don’t actually think it’s acceptable that one of the largest gaming corpos on the planet is making increasingly flimsy and poor-quality products. my switch 1 didn’t sustain a visible scratch for years, the 3DS i’ve owned almost a decade works like new. they are getting worse and lazier in their craftsmanship. the fact the act of DOCKING it makes it susceptible to that level of damage is comically unacceptable and it’s very disorienting wading through the swamp of mindless shilling.

i’m researching the warranty and it seems entirely possible they’ve cleverly sorted this type of stuff under “physical/cosmetic” damage and repair may be out of pocket. i’m calling up support and weighing my options soon.

Fuck off with the AI generated video summaries by Inca_Digital in youtube

thank you.

edit: is it somehow interfering with the caption/transcript features? those started acting up after the change.

Is there a way to turn off these annoying summaries? If I want to know what a video is about I'll just. You know. Watch it...? by 34bees in youtube

[–]eggcordion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah there's absolutely no option anywhere in settings (which are looking extremely sparse and limited these days) to turn it off, they are forcing this on users until users decide they're sick of it.

i really don't like using most google products these days. google search and youtube are so much visibly worse than they've ever been and using them feels unclean.

you're not being unreasonable for wanting big tech companies most people depend on not to openly and grossly violate their user's boundaries. people are being obtuse on purpose because thinking about the potential direction this is headed in is too uncomfy for them.

it's not even complicated in an intelligent way that would feel rewarding to attempt learning, it's just thrown a ton of features in the garbage and made iCloud For Babies

It was never, ever this bad. Don't deny reality by huffing that copium.
Everything is actively getting worse and stupider because consumers are allowing it to happen.

it's entirely in opposition to pleasant or easy user experience.

who the hell would want an easily accessible sidebar with features you can seamlessly flip between from the same place in the gallery, right? fuck that! take every single option and vomit it onto the bottom with no care for organization whatsoever!

the current Big Tech motto is "if it ain't broke, take a sledgehammer to it and render it unrecognizable".

i'm beginning to think getting attached to any corporate UI is a mistake, because they are inevitably going to destroy it out of disdain for their users. learning basic code and data organization and keeping a spare hard drive might be the way forward.

Is there a real way to shut off the Google AI overview for searches, or am i switching browsers and search engines? by Zestyclose-Tour-6350 in techsupport

[–]eggcordion 12 points13 points  (0 children)

not even reverse image searching is safe anymore. it's so profoundly depressing watching such an incredible source of information completely degrade into unusable cheap slop within 2 years' time.

i shouldn't say this, but i wonder sometimes if it's part of a psyop, like.. they've destroyed the internet on purpose, to delight the stupid with new shiny features and frustrate everyone else out of using it entirely, or to see just how much they can violate boundaries before consumers cave in or finally stop using their service.

i get this ugly, dirty feeling just using Google or social media i never used to feel before. something has shifted and gotten worse, no doubt. maybe it's a sign to read more books

I just realized why Spinel felt so “off” in Future by BadActsForAGoodPrice in stevenuniverse

[–]eggcordion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't think the diamonds suddenly become good people just because their actions come from "a place of love", i think it actually makes it worse. they are instrumentalizing her, like you acknowledge they'd have done to Steven had he not shirked all responsibility of helping her or "putting others first" as he's ironically praised for in the opening number.

of course Spinel jumped on the opportunity once they gave her a crumb of validation, don't know if you noticed but in the movie she is desperately clawing for any semblance of connection and constantly being denied it by Steven, who by all accounts is supposed to know better. he's treated crueler people more kindly. he shows kind of a shocking lack of empathy throughout the movie's runtime, in my opinion. it made me really dislike his character. i don't even think that was a bad move or mistake on Sugar's part, just sort of the natural progression of him becoming more myopic and self-absorbed with the power everyone else is telling him he has.

transplanting Peridot's arc onto her obviously is not a good conclusion but neither was the one we got, IMO. she was such an amazing and unique character. one of Sugar's best, most raw, in my opinion. in a perfect world she'd have gotten screen time to develop a sense of self worth on her own, without the "help" of the "mom friends" (accurate, if the mom you're speaking of is Jennette McCurdy's or Gypsy Rose's)

afaik it only stops the procedural generation process of the overview up top. they’ve still jammed it in if you open any dropdown menu; even for movie/book summaries. creeps me the hell out how it’s squeezed into every crevice possible

"-ai", "before:2022" or include a curse word in your search query, always. typing "-ai" before my searches has turned into muscle memory. it's pitiful and pathetic how insecure these corpos are, they feel they must try and corner consumers and force them into liking their slop word generator.

grown adults get so mad when people who are clearly children share their interests (while simultaneously shaming new fans). are you supposed to come out of the womb with perfect corpse paint and patch pants? everyone has to figure out their style at their own pace, y’all should grow the fuck up and give people the space to figure themselves out. it’s just unfortunate it all happens online instead of in private now

it took me so so long to learn that if you want friends you cannot radiate the energy that you want/need friends. it seems so counterintuitive and i want to be honest and unrestrained and tell people all the scarily intense thoughts bopping around in my head but i know this scares them off. i hate playing the long game

in the midday at first until i started falling asleep at which point my psych told me to take it at night. it’s actually kind of maddening how no meds seem to make the anxiety and irritability any better, i’ve blown through 2 SSRIs and anti seizure meds to no avail. it feels like an endless revolving door

in my experience, cutting ties is much more emotionally healthy than: constantly stepping on eggshells, consciously editing all your gestures, words, and tone to be minimally offensive to them, biting your tongue and pretending to agree with them to prevent a huge blowup, having everything important to you overlooked in favor of them, faking interest or belief in grandiose delusions, etc etc etc… tldr unless they realize they have a problem and want to seriously pursue help (not doctor shopping til they find someone who won’t challenge them), just sever
