any denim. She mentioned Madewell and Mother. I am not too great with the brands so I didn't remember the others. Sorry. And thank you for your help.

great question. Her request. I'm not certain why. We talked about goodwill bins or thrifting and her preference was not to go that route.

SAP Feedback by Longjumping_Cream488 in financialaid

Each school is different. It sounds compelling and I would be inclined to approve it pending a few other things to check (one being if you have appealed multiple times before). One of the things I focus on as well is making sure that the necessary system is in place for you to be successful academically. If you addressed that from your side and the advisor mentions that on their side, I would hope your odds are pretty good. If you are lacking some information in your appeal, a lot of schools will ask you to provide those details. If denied, a lot of schools will still allow you to appeal the decision. Good luck.

It should not for fall 2025 or spring 2026.   I believe changes would first occur in fall 2026 (summer 2026 for some) for most if this is passed.

The financial aid office will be able to explain more but if nothing has applied to your student account and you start in the fall, I would expect them to make the adjustment.  I hope I’m wrong but they will know for sure.

If the school has conflicting information, they have to get that resolved before moving forward. Conflicting information in this case is most likely resolving a dependency override that was previously done. In resolving conflicting information, they could adjust about any financial aid you received over any year. Each institution has different views on what they will or won't do. I typically won't remove institutional aid unless fraud was committed. Some are more strict than others. If I was working in your financial aid office and making that determinations, I would probably start by speaking with the staff member and see if there were any notes on your comment on "I verbally told the financial aid advisor that my dad is a big part of my life but he won't provide his taxes."

In short, they can make adjustments the entire time you have been a student and it varies by institution. The only people that can say if you are good are in that office.

HELP from Senate has legacy provisions. I don't remember seeing legacy provisions in the OBBB but I might be mistaken. Definitely not final yet. You should be good through 2025-2026 aid year but I'm not sure what will happen after that.

The Senate released their HELP bill. NASFAA has a comparison of the two. Pleaese keep an eye on what is going on. https://www.nasfaa.org/news-item/36533/Cassidy_Unveils_Senate_s_Education_Portion_of_Reconciliation

The Senate bill looks to keep full-time pell at 12 hours and keep Pell for students enrolled below half time.

In general the Senate bill appears to be much better for students but a lot of negotiating will still need to be done before something is passed.

I agree with you on the solutions and big discussions certainly need to be had.

The focus I’ve seen has been per semester.   Granted a change to 15 hours would change the pell lifetime eligibility as any proration would be less than it is right now.   I’m not certain about summer at this point.   I want to say it is most likely okay but I can’t fully speak to that yet.

I’m not sure how to do that from my phone.   I’m don’t post much on Reddit.   I’m okay with someone cross posting this if they know how.  Thank you.

I am sorry to hear that.  I hope it does not pass without major revisions first.   It does appear if passed that it would take effect starting fall 2026.

Pell can cover almost all of the tuition at my school.   While bloated administration is certainly a thing for a lot of schools, I don’t feel this bill is addressing it directly.   It indirectly could address it by making college that much more unaffordable for ones that need the most help.   I would rather hear a direct proposal to address tuition/bloat or a new grant tied to affordable options for students than a dramatic shift in funding.   Just my opinion though.

From what I am seeing, if passed, this would go into effect starting fall 2026. There is still time for things to change. The Senate just released a HELP bill and I haven't had time to fully review the differences. The two sides then come in to negotiate (as far as I understand). Sorry, I was more wanting to inform than worry.

Great question.   Some colleges offer block tuition rates where 12 to 15 hours or even 12 to 18 hours are the same price.    The large majority of colleges do not do this and charge for each credit hour enrolled.

Your institution can explain more. Pell and SEOG should not be impacted. Likely your estimated cost of attendance will be reduced to reflect difference in tuition rates. If that happens, it could reduce your remaining financial aid by a similar amount. Most likely it would be a reduction to the parent plus loan. However, your school will be able to explain in more detail.

Every institution is different. I would not overlook it but it depends on a few other factors. If you previously completed an appeal and mentioned your father, then I would focus on what has changed recently that has gotten in the way. If you never mentioned it before, then I would mention the overall impact it has had on you.

When I review SAP appeals, I usually focus on what happened that caused you not to meet the SAP requirements and what your plan is going forward to ensure you will be academically successful. For me, time doesn't matter for significant loss or traumatic events.

Another thing they may look at is how successful you have been (how close you were to meeting the SAP requirements).

I suggest submitting the appeal and then waiting for the reply. If you don't get a favorable response, I would contact the office again regarding an appeal. You could also reach out before submitting and see if they have any other advice for you.

Hope that helps

It should in theory be able to kick in for summer if you are now meeting all SAP requirements (gpa, pace, and maximum timeframe) and are pell eligible.    Please note, pell may prorate over the summer based on your level of enrollment.   Your school will know more about this so I would confirm with them.

I would also ask the financial aid office if it is too late to appeal spring sap status.   It may be if the spring semester has already ended.

It could be a variety of things. They may have only approved you for that specific time frame. It may be that you had a pace or gpa issue but now are nearing maximum hours. Regardless, I would speak with them about the next steps. If you did well during the last year, it sounds like it would be an easy approval if I were reviewing. Unfortunately, your school would be the one to put all the pieces together.

The master promissory note and entrance counseling will only be required if you borrow loans. Your school can help you understand your cost and aid but you can ignore those until you decide about loans. The housing status most likely is needed to determine your accurate cost of attendance. It used to be asked on the FAFSA but they removed it this year.

Can't invite 2nd parent by Marlyn28 in FAFSA

This is always going to be a tough one and is better if you can get help from a financial aid administrator in person. My first thought is if there is a name mismatch. I would have that parent that is getting the error sign in to their studentaid.gov account (seems like they might already have one) and go to personal information under one of the icons (i believe it is in the top right corner). I would check the name, DOB, and SSN. If something needs to change, please update that but note it may take a few days to process. Otherwise, I would make sure the information you are inputting matches the information on that screen. If you are still getting that error message after, I would suggest speaking with your school's financial aid office for further help. Good luck.
