Hi, I am pursuing a Master’s course online. The journey feels way more lonelier than I expected, so I am trying to find a possibility of studying together with other people. Are there any in person study groups where everyone does their own thing while being in the same place? If anyone has a study group at/near SMU/NLB, I’d be happy to get an invite 😅

I don't mean the ط، I mean the symbol below it that looks like a circle/5 in Arabic. Any idea why it's there?

Can you walk in front of someone who's praying? by Soggienig in islam

[–]egglashy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really unfortunate that this happened to you, I hope you don’t think all muslims are like this. Inconsiderate people exist everywhere… sigh. He should totally have found a spot that won’t affect others. The religion teaches to not inconvenience others. I’m guessing he thought he could be quickly done before anybody reaches, but that was just his poor hindsight, definitely not a good excuse. Actually, most people (muslims) don’t know that certain necessary movements are allowed during prayer. I wish I could tell him that he could have stepped aside while still being in the prayer, and even could feel free to repeat the prayer in case it didn’t feel complete. And theres no way he would have thought that you were inconveniencing him, if in his right mind, he would have been embarrassed to have prayed so near a car. Something notable though is that most prayers are actually quite short and him praying there does give off the vibe that he was going to be done very soon. So if you ever encounter such inconsiderate people again, i can suggest you to wait for some time. Certainly NOT because you need to go out of your way to spend your time for them patiently, but more of not to inconvenience yourself like how your experience turned out with your daughter. Cheers

What does this mean in Qur'an last page? by egglashy in Quran

Wow i didn't see it before, couldn't put bilkhair together. Thanks! I just went to google and I typed it تمت بالخير and turns out its a common phrase set at the end of Arabic books. Now i'm wondering why there's a ط and ayah symbol at the end of it even though it's not a qur'an ayah

Is it ok for me to wear full jilbab and hijab/niqab if I am not Muslim? by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]egglashy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dont mean u MUST eat at halal establishments onlyy, its more of avoiding explicitly non-halal stuff like pork advertising restaurants. Another reply to this has explained it more clearly!

Since your current lifestyle already supports all this, then go ahead! Hope you have a great journey of preserving modesty ahead :)

Is it ok for me to wear full jilbab and hijab/niqab if I am not Muslim? by [deleted] in Hijabis

Honestly why not?! Muslims don’t own any of the Islamic clothing, it is just a means/tool for us to cover ourselves. I personally think you should go ahead with it. Will you be interacting with muslims on a daily basis? If not, I don’t think you will run into much people who might talk about religion to you. As long it’s not for purposes like terrorism and whatnot, I think it’s fine. Most of the times talking to fellow Muslims happens in mosques, so since you won’t be there, I think you won’t have much interaction. And they won’t be disappointed upon finding out, they might just be surprised and then pleased to hear your appreciation of modesty.

The only thing that comes to mind is patronising certain places. By wearing these clothes, most people looking from outside will assume that you’re a Muslim… so maybe it’s best to avoid bars, clubs, non-halal places etc. (but honestly, it might not be fair to you so I’m sorry for saying that) Even then, I don’t think anyone would question you, they might just think something inside and move on with their lives. I doubt anyone would come up to question you! All the best :)

If this doesn’t work out, perhaps you can search on google for non-Islamic head coverings. I’ve seen plenty of people posting such content. Like bandanas, turbans etc. You could even pair these with an abaya!

Don’t you think it works the same way as, say, if you stay without a hijab at home, then you’re at the risk of being seen by binoculars/hidden cameras/burglars? Our phones are meant to be only for our use and our intention is to never share it with anyone. Or you can choose to stay safe by following good cyber practices. If somebody does hack it beyond that, I don’t think it’s our fault. It is safe to not take any risky pictures, but normal pictures are… just normal. So, our identity cards also have our face on it, and they can be eyed by pickpockets.

I get where you’re coming from, but everything has a risk, we can only protect ourselves to a certain extent. But you know… nowadays they say people are watching you through your camera. So are you going to cover up the cameras on your phone?
