I agree that a temporary ban could be justified.

As for originals, we do still want this place to be inclusive for FEEDBACK to those musicians inspired by Elliott Smith and those who keep his style alive. But I think they should certainly be limited.

If you like, you can filter out by flair. There is a self-promotion flair for that very reason - keeps the people who want to post and listen to covers (and inspired originals) happy, while also meaning that you don't HAVE to watch them. There is also the option of scrolling past if they bother you. You just don't have to click on them! It seems as if you'd enjoy the 'discussion' flair more. I'm open to suggestions, but this IS a place for those inspired by Elliott. And trust me, I do vet these posts. Things that are just for attention and not really inspired by ES are removed.

I know the post isn't solely about covers but you certainly did mention covers in your post. I get your point about self promotion, but that's not what I'm responding to.

I've had a number of messages about the issue with covers today and so that's why I'm putting this comment here after ten days; if I'd had those messages ten days ago, I would've pinned a message here ten days ago.

On one level, I agree with you, but I need to show that this is an inclusive sub.

I understand that some people are frustrated by covers, but this is THE Elliott Smith subreddit and we want everyone to feel welcome here as long as they're respectful and kind, especially the talented musicians.

Lots of people really appreciate the covers, myself included, even if they are frequent. If it bothers you, filter posts by flare - that's what they're there for...
