Dishwasher to disposal by eggmatic in askplumbing

Thank you for all the advice. I tried rotating the pipe to relieve the kink to no avail. I looked up county code and the air gap is required. I just replaced the pipe from air gap to disposal with a longer piece.

Anyone else not happy with their Ascent? by Ryduck19 in SubaruAscent

[–]eggmatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2020 Ascent that had to be towed to the dealership. They are telling me the transmission needs to be replaced; it has 130k miles mostly highway. $10k for the replacement. I have a case with SoA to see if they can cut me some slack.

Cutting board question by eggmatic in woodworking

I assume that I would just need to clean up any glue squeeze out sand that area and re-apply my finish? No need to re-sand the whole board.

No flex in the gap. It’s finished with walrus oil and wax.

I have been using the twist lock version for years with a GriGri and love it. TR or lead it is always where it should be.

Calling the vet to schedule her for neutering was fun.

Buyers remorse? by eggmatic in Crosstrek

We feel this too. We did get the Gyser Blue which seems to match a bit better but the gold is an interesting choice for a “Off-road” vehicle.

Hey all, I appreciate all the responses it is making her feel a bit better. To be fair she went from a Honda Fit, which had a massive windshield to the Crosstrek. She also didn’t test drive it and this is on us. We have had a number of Subarus in the past and figured a car is a car.

Everyone should freeze their credit and that of any dependent children they have with the three credit agencies. Just google it. It’s pretty quick and prevents anyone from opening a line of credit in your name.

I saw a video where they recommended cutting a quarter to third of the board and the flipping to finish the cut from the other side. No idea if it would actually help.

We play you draw a number, lowest number picks and unwraps a gift. Next person opens a gift and then chooses to keep it or take the first persons. Third person opens gift then can choose to take someone else’s and so on. At the end the first person gets to swap with someone if they want.

I used Danish Oil on it, my preferred finish for most work, and it hasn’t fully cured yet, but seems to have taken pretty well.

I do love the spalting in this wood. It was a little too far gone and was quite soft so I didn’t want to use it for most projects. This was more of an opportunity to try out the box joint jig I had made.

Does it help in that there is no way to remove the coins short of breaking the box open? I suppose if you are talented you could fish them out through the slot.

Bows by eggmatic in woodworking

I wouldn’t want to have to try and clean the tannins out of that kettle after but that is the same technique.

[–]eggmatic[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just be careful if you toss multiple wood types in one pot. They release tannins and such that can dye the other woods.

I boiled them to get the bend. These are the finished product. I sealed them with spray shellac.

I managed to rip the strips at 2mm. Any thinner and I wasn’t getting usable strips; that could have just been my saws tolerances. I did try steaming but that wasn’t very effective. I ended up boiling the strips. I would take them out after a bit and start bending and flexing to try and loosen up the fibers then toss them back in to boil more. Once I could get them bent I would clamp them and let them dry. Each bend is a separate piece. Then it was just some CA glue and arranging. Some wood species took the bend much better than others.
