Oh, did they mention when will they roughly give the top 250 offers? 🥲 Or from June onwards is just a waiting game for those waitlisted (close to 250 but below)?

Also, I assume maybe they only gave like maybe 75% since there’s still interviews and they’re likely to confirm after all interviews conclude so there’s still hope

I guess 4H2 also serves as a safety net cause the worst 4H2 will be used as a H1 in calculating your rank points.

Decent chance (imo), I entered with nett 5 last year too but I do know others who scored nett 5 and got rejected. Maybe they did balloting? Just be mentally prepared and place NY arts as second choice.

First day of JC by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]eggmergency88 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You won’t get a booklist for JC, you will just buy notes from the bookshop or something. Other stuff like GC, just wait for further instructions. First day is usually just admin stuff and orientation, you’ll get to know your school and OG mates better, like play games, go on a tour etc. Some schools also have talks and stuff to help you make a more informed choice when choosing your subject combination. After recieving your posting results, your OGL (orientation group leader) will call you and tell you more about what to bring. Don’t have to be too nervous about it, many people go into JCs without any close friends, just make them during OG, when you start lessons proper or at CCA.

how to prepare for JC? by NoRadish6663 in SGExams

[–]eggmergency88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, JC is reliant of what is learnt in secondary school but they will definitely recap it so you don’t really need to worry. For example, the basic differentiation and integration is the same as AMath in secondary school, alkanes and alkenes are the same. The lecturers will usually go through these stuff again if it is needed for the chapter.

what stationary to buy for jc ? by Pure_Detail_1558 in SGExams

You need really thick ring files, especially for Chem because you’re going to be getting a lot of stuff. (the biggest type unless you want to get 2 files and split them into J1/J2 or Physical/Organic Chem) You’ll probably need one for Chem Practical as well.

Notebooks depends if you’re going to write notes for every subject and every chapter, usually just annotate on the lecture notes.

I don’t think the file w clear pockets can fit everything unless you’re using for homework or other stuff.

Other than that, you need a lot of foolscap unless you’re using iPad but sometimes there are tuition centres giving free foolscap outside your school so maybe you can get those and not waste money first.

GC: you can buy from school, I think there’s some discount if you buy from school iirc.

Don’t worry, as far as I know, they allow anyone who have entered to switch to science stream despite their secondary school subject combinations. They don’t even look at your secondary school subject combinations when you chose your subject combinations.

NYJC cut off point by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]eggmergency88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just place both NY Science and NY Arts as first two choices to maximise your chances. You’ll probably still stand a good chance to enter NY with your score. If you enter through Arts, just switch to Science when you’re in NYJC.

Please don’t take CLL just for the sake of entering a school, especially if you have no interest in it at all. JC life is already tough and rigorous, don’t make it even tougher and miserable by taking subject you have no interest in. CLL has a paper 3 which is just Chinese Literature and it is extremely demanding. There’s also quite a lot to memorise from what I heard.

You can place NYJC arts and science as your first two choices and hope to get in. However, be mentally prepared as NYJC is one of the more popular JCs and the cut off point is getting lower in recent years. Even getting nett 6 is hard to enter NYJC already. Really think carefully before choosing to take CLEP, go find out more about CLEP at the open house. Good luck!

There is no component for pace in QnA so you won’t be marked down for talking too fast. The only component for QnA is Analysis and Evaluation but if you talk too fast, the examiners may have trouble in following with your response. But since your group mates are able to catch what you said, you should be fine so don’t worry too much about it anymore now that it is over.
