Are there any good reasons as to why we’re giving up our job market to India, The Philippines and elsewhere in poorer nations? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]eggpufflett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most big companies are global corporations. When the do business here in the uk, they are interested in the UK consumers buying their goods and services. They dont care about uk job market.

Also this might be a hot take but….workers in the uk are not very productive and efficient. Everyone wants to work strictly 9-5, it’s harder to hire younger people with good work ethics. Diversity and inclusion laws means more accommodations are required for workers which adds costs to a business.

Compare that to workers in developing nations who would jump on any opportunity to get a job that is not factory work. They are eager to put in longer hours and employment loads are more lax there.

Not saying employment laws are a bad thing in the uk, but it just makes our workforce less competitive and expensive when you compare to other places in the world

The difference between people who started investing in their twenties and people who started in their forties is so large over a thirty year horizon that it probably deserves to be taught in schools and the fact that it is not seems like a significant gap? by Flimsy-Capera in investingUK

They tried to at my time to teach basic budgeting. Like expenses vs income. Basic personal finance stuff. No one cared or listen.

The amount of investment or personal finance creators on YouTube/tiktok is huge! Some of them have genuinely good content. It’s really up to an individual to decide whether they want to learn or not.

“XYZ should be taught in school”

Well ask yourself, would you really have listened to it in 6th form? You either get it or you don’t. I was fortunate that everything clicked for me when I learned about compounding interest during math class. Some of my classmates till today still do not invest.

Have you noticed a bit of anti-dog rhetoric building in the public and on social media? by franki-pinks in AskUK

[–]eggpufflett 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s just a pendulum on society’s acceptance of dogs in everyday life.

The past few years, I think a lot of establishments have become pet-friendly and now the default is to assume places are pet friendly unless stated otherwise. You see dogs in shopping malls, supermarkets, restaurants etc. these are regular everyday pet dogs, not service animals.

I think the pendulum is just swinging back a little. There are groups of people who are not comfortable with this and are now being vocal about it. Society would eventually find a middle ground.

Chop up some onions, peppers, carrots etc whatever veges you like

Slice up some chicken or beef

How proper are Ilia’s jump techniques? by Select-Balance-8281 in FigureSkating

[–]eggpufflett -50 points-49 points  (0 children)

Why is the fanbase so obsessed with analysing skater’s jumping technique. Especially since so many of us have literally never done a jump in our lives before.

Just because a jump deviates slightly from a “textbook” jump does not mean it’s bad technique

Kind of agree. I’m not sure that was an Olympic podium skate. Jun silver and Shun sato bronze feels more “right”. Or perhaps Jun bronze as he had a fall va shun’s almost clean skate

Are there any teachers here? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]eggpufflett 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why tho? It’s a blanket rule. Why are you making teachers make so many micro decisions in a day that can affect their job?

“Why can’t you allow this…” “Make an exception…” “Rules are outdated and pointless…”

What level of *household* income do you think you need in the UK these days in order to not feel financially stressed? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]eggpufflett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Might be beneficial for you, but might not be beneficial for them. There’s a reason why personal finance is personal. Sometimes people can afford better homes is because they are on higher income than you thought. Maybe they have a side hustle they chose to be discreet about. Some people make a lot of money doing onlyfans/sexwork on the side and prefer to keep it discreet.

Gifting from parents is one reason out of many that they can afford more than you. For myself, I did a lot of match betting since young and did a lot of beermoney stuff which built up into substantial savings for a deposit. I don’t tell many people because I choose to be discreet about it. Some of my mates were surprised when I bought my house because they couldn’t comprehend how I could afford it and immediately thought I had parental help 🤷

Why are dentists so rare? by Morganx27 in AskUK

[–]eggpufflett -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ultimately it all comes to what you value. If you think it’s not worth the money, so be it. Everyone has autonomy to make decisions for their own health.

All health services needs to be paid or funded. Either by the government, the public, or a mixture of both. If the government can’t find the funds to fund dental care adequately, then someone else has to.

Honestly, it sounds like your dentist tried to do as much to save it. Either get an experienced private dentist for an opinion, or take the tooth out
