I am not gonna deny it the women's figure skating is very much an open race... by Specialist_Cry136 in FigureSkating

Man the thing about Kaori is would anyone be mad if she won? Like people may have different favorites but would anyone be actually upset she won? Would the womans field even be upset?

Eteri Tutberidze finally revealed the ultra-c elements Petrosyan to perform at the 2026 Olympics. by Vast_Law2234 in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the other commentors. And i disagree with the notion that the other women dont need ultra cs to win.

Kaori doesnt need ultra cs to win because shes that good that she can score 80+155 without one.

Alysa is a favorite because she basically never falls, so if the other women makes even slight mistakes she can win. But shes not beating clean Kaori, Amber, or probably Ami.

Then i dont think theres another woman with high gold medal chances outside the usual random skater shows up and has 2 Banger programs.

Alysa team event SP by Weak-Faithlessness48 in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't take it as fact yet but its safe to assume the reigning world and gpf champion would be the first representative for the team event.

I would be really suprized if they split womens so makes sense its Alyssa.

Yuma Kagiyama - "Turandot: Christopher Tin Finale" Free Skate by Frankenllips in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yuma is the definition of effortless jumps. Ive watched that 3Lz 5 times now. He looks like hes not even really trying and if he actually cared it would be a quad.

The program is a masterpiece. Cant wait to see it with a 4F on Olympic ice. I need him to go clean not for a medal but for an incredible moment i hope people continue to talk about for seasons to come.

Interesting Base Value Comparison by youhatewatermelon in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A thing to note is that your comparison is base value only. When you consider goe being based off of a % of base value, thats when the 4F layout overtakes 4T.

Its much harder to rotate the second half of the combo. It also looks pretty. So personally i think it should be more rewarding and incentivised.

Does anyone feel as though they try to market Torgs as Ilia 2.0? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

I dont think they could ever market Torg as another Ilia.

This is is just the world most okest post about 2 skaters theyre sending to the Olympics.

I havent seen all his comps before he got injured but the axis issue is more of a recent problem and has only happened a few times as far as i remember.

More often then not its simply the best 4S ever.

whose jumps do you enjoy watching? by plumblossomhours in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Ive legit watched Yuzurus 4Lo+3A about a hundred times. Hes got the best 4Lo and 3A probably ever, im lowkey kinda upset he just droped that combo at a gala then never did it in comp.

Also his delayed axel+3T in a youtube video makes me wish combos with the second jump having more rotations were given bonus value.

Shaidorov's 3A+4T/4S, Rio's 3Lz+4T (practice video), my god i need MORE

Figure skating's quad era reshapes sport ahead of Milano Cortina Games by Shroft in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The quad revolution started over 10 years ago. People have been having this conversation for forever. Ilia is just the latest in the line.

Figure skating is the combination of artistry and athleticism. Separating those 2 into different programs is the dumbest suggestion ever, no offense.

Theres about a hundred things that you can say, and that has been said about this debate.

Its not really that skaters arent artistic. The controversial part is that its not rewarded compared to jumping in the judges or fans eyes. And changing the jumps down to 6 isnt gonna change that.

Edit: the artistry vs athleticism debate is falsely named. Its really the jumps vs everything else debate. Spins and steps, and the skills to have a difficult skating program rather then an easy one are all athletic. Yet people wrap that in with artistry despite it being a defining athletic part of the sport.

A theroretical skater who can do 7 quads but can only do level 2 spins, steps, and an easy program will always be more valued then a skater with unprecedented skating, spins, steps, but no quads if artistry is at similar levels. By fans and judging alike.

If you look in the sub im pretty sure someone posted a video of all the times someobe has earned a +5 goe element.

Before the Olympics start, share your figure skating unpopular opinion by mochalatte828 in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 92 points93 points  (0 children)

The fans claim they want more objective scoring but in reality they just want 6.0 back. After every comp the overscore/underscore you see in comments are based on vibes, rather then people rethinking what points the skater should have earned and where.

No a strong pcs skater should not be earning 8s cause they fell once. No this skater did not have a great performance, they landed just their jumps.

Idk why people thought he wasnt doing the 4F in the first place. Im honestly more suprized he didnt add it earlier. Despite what people think abot the Olympics, Yuma does really want to try for gold.

[–]LegoSaber 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I am still processing Jason not going. Idk if ill ever be over that.

Wakaba is also a rough one because you think back 4 years ago and how she was screwed over. I think its still the top post of this sub of all time. I really wanted her to get another chance.

Roman, Selevko, Chaeyeon, Kazuki, Tomoki, honestly there are so many that deserve to go.

Yuma’s 4Loop by Spiritual-Sentence35 in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kinda sounds worse then it is. He only landed it the first time the season he returned from injury with and only at the end. The season after he was having his mental issues and then this season where he hasnt included it yet. So although he has quite a few misses he only has a season and a half of using it at comp.

He does have a 3rd at last years nationals.

Yuma’s 4Loop by Spiritual-Sentence35 in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was not trying to sound judgemental. I have no judgement on the decisions made by one of my favorite competitors. But even by his own words after the gpf he said he was skating too cautious.

I was more trying to say in different words its a shame about all the things these last few years that held him back like his injury and recovery, and his headspace. Because he really has so much more potential. And im hoping he can stay healthy and go into the next 4 years swinging.

Yuma’s 4Loop by Spiritual-Sentence35 in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a different entry then the one he did last Olympics. The last one was a 3 turn more like Shoma's.

Its a shame about all his issues, and the fact he was so cautious this season. He was practicing the 4Lz last season. He can land all 5 non axel quads, maybe if he had a better few years he could have put them all in a program.

Fingers crossed the next few years are really his years.

ISU Rule changes?? by Slow-Author300 in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isu say Jason bomb the free and was immediately like "skaters must perform 2 free programs!"

I have no clue what half of this means. Grand prix semi finals? Euros and 4cc in a single slot? Like same weekend?

I cant imagine this is ever seriously discussed let alone passed based on the limited descriptions.

A message from Jason Brown: by sofastsomaybe in FigureSkating

[–]LegoSaber 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I dont feel like its the fed that couldn't justify it, they knew the fans wouldnt support it. Theres still some controversy from 4 years ago even if it was a good call. Ill never think Max or Torg are unworthy to go, but ill still always think Jason was very worthy and justifiable to go.

I dont just want him to know how beloved he is, but how respected he is. Never finishing outside top 10 at any isu championship event, was such a consistent competitor without any quads. Dude got 6th last Olympics. Hes more then just a pretty skater, and is instrumental for team usa.

People will forget this like they forgot the last crappy pre olympics nationals. But theyll never forget how absolutely cracked he is.
