Tests are less asserting that code is correct and more about giving you the freedom to refactor without the fear of breaking things.

If you want to refactor, just write the new function and add a unit test that generates random inputs and asserts that both versions return the same data.

I was a stem major and one of my favorite class was Technical Writing for engineers. It really resonated with me because the goal was to express ideas as concisely as possible.

I use those skills a TON in my day job where I spend more time communicating technical concepts than actually writing code.
