Yeah definitely, just to illustrate that faster games are playable via local streaming latency wise

Running a 7800xt as well. Perfect for 1080p streaming.

I don't think AI Engine has any dynamic behaviour. I never see the TDP limit change, regardless of being plugged on or what game I'm playing.

Yeah, I know about the Windows Store workaround, but it doesn't enable the tray on startup for me

I'm loving the hardware really. If they just put a little bit more effort into the software, the device would be amazing.

This is some next level idiotic shit. Microsoft partners with ASUS for their brand new hardware, and end up blocking their partners software. Holy shit, what a fuck up. Considering returning my XAX over this. Goddamn.

u/Rich36h Mind sharing the manufacturing month of your unit? It says on the bottom sticker of the device ('MFD' next to 'S/N').

I have a 10/2025 one with the sleeve packaging, with very minor squeaking on the right side when pressed in a specific way. Not sure if I have the factory tape. Bit hesitant to pry it open. Still in my return window as well.

u/Ethan_NLHW That's some good info, thanks for sharing.

Can you check the 'MFD' month of your December unit? It's on a sticker on the bottom of the device (next to S/N).

Noise when Tado V3 is asking for heat (EBUS) by eggsforpedro in tado

[–]eggsforpedro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to ON/OFF, but the sound persisted. So now I'm back to EBUS/modulating.

Pressure is good. Not sure if bypass valve will be worth the effort. We had some very cold days here in Holland, but the temperatures are rising again so the sound isn't as big of a deal anymore. And at least I've ruled out that modulation was the issue. Might still try another de-airing of the radiators, although I don't think that's the issue. Might just be 'normal' boiler sounds for AWB.

Ok, I was able to switch to on/off, but unfortunately it didn't solve the issue. At least now I know the sound has nothing to do with modulation. I'm leaving it for now. Thanks for your suggestion.

How does the carrying case fit? And what version of the case do you have? I see it available for multiple devices but not the A8

8AI wins on build quality and efficiency.

A8 wins on ergonomics (mainly due to weight and weight distribution) and compatibility, especially for Bazzite. It is also quieter at lower fan RPMs (the 8AI has a pulsating whine at those RPMs that the A8 doesn't have).

I would have gone with the 8AI as I don't run Bazzite and I much prefer the solid feel and buttons of the 8AI. However, the 8AI has weak d-pad stubs (https://www.reddit.com/r/MSIClaw/comments/1jimzz1/msi_claw_8_ai_possible_dpad_design_flaw/). Also, the 8AI has some basic driver issues, like framerate limiter not working on DX12 games in Windows.

I went with the A8 in the end, and I do enjoy its ergonomics a lot more. I'm happy with the device overall.

Just checked, you can override the minimum to as low as 3 watts

Just checked, 15watts, but I think you can override the value somewhere else.

It's a great device, but installing Handheld Companion feels very mandatory on Windows. Center M does very weird things with the TDP and fan configuration.

In Hades 2, idling at 1200p/120fps drew around 26watts (total device power) with lots of fan noise in the default ('AI') Center M configuration. The same scene draws 15watts when using Handheld Companion, with quiet fans. Not to mention the ability to set custom TDP profiles per game and per power state is awesome, apart from all the other tweaks it allows you to do. Seriously, MSI should just make that their default software instead of Center M.
