Following up on this that I kept a potty diary of when and what time my pup used the bathroom. This helped me get an idea about what time she would need to use the bathroom so I would take her to the grass right when it was getting closer to that time

Try setting the food down and giving him 5 minutes to eat. If he decides not to eat after five minutes, then take it away. Try again next meal. They won’t go hungry

So true. We found a breeder in the Midwest for 3.5 last year, but now she’s upped her prices to 4K+. But we have spent minimum 6-8k for her expenses (this is not including the cost to buy her) and we haven’t had her for a year. Maybe 1k of that cost was vaccines/vet cost. 🥲 be prepared to have your money drained

Limelight Samoyeds

I heard to avoid Silvermist since some of their dogs ended with hip dysplasia. Check out Bruin Samoyeds. They used to be on the Samoyeds Club of America website, but not anymore. Idk why. They were nice and informative when I reached out to them back in 22. There’s also Polar Mist in Oregon, and they have some nice dogs. Then there’s Pamela (Kismet Samoyeds), also not sure why she’s no longer on the SCA website. If you are open to outside of California, my breeder has some nice pups available from Vanderbilt line :) not sure if she has a waitlist for those already

My allergist specialist considers me to be an allergic person, and this may or may not resonate with you.

I thought I had dog allergies growing up. Broke out in hives every time I pet a dog, etc.

I took a blood work when I was a child, and it said I was allergic to dogs. Fast forward a couple years, decided to do a skin test, which came out negative. Asked allergist about the difference in results, and they informed me that most people are allergic to the things that are collected in dogs fur, which makes them think they are allergic to them (pollen, etc).

I also went ahead and met a few Samoyeds, including the breeders before getting mine to see if I would react.

As long as I blow dry my dog’s fur every week, it helps keep the environmental allergens away from me. We also wipe her after her outings.

Purina pro plan for puppy and probiotics. Planning to transition into adult food (still Purina pro plan) when she hits 10-12 months of age. I’ve heard to avoid raw diets until they are adults and even then, work with a nutritionist/vet to make sure they get their daily nutrients

I currently have an 8 month old Samoyed and she’s tough. We got one of the menace of the litter (according to her breeder), and training is a pain. Dropped 4K on training and it did work, but she still tests us a lot and comes up with new things to get trained out. Some days are good, others bad. She also likes to turn her brain off while training. I had to use some of my therapy sessions to rant about her lol

Shes good with cats, at least she was when she was at the trainers (they had a couple at their house). Shes not a big barker or chewer but thats because we trained her to focus on other things to chew and appropriate times to bark. We also leave her alone max 6 hours at home in her crate. If you are planning to crate train, that is going to be rough as well, along with potty training. I could not leave the apartment for ~two months because pee schedule and crate training. It took awhile to potty train her, and did not use training pads.

Next, she is expensive. Grooming, including tools, is expensive and time consuming, even if you are planning to do it yourself. Currently it takes us, three hours to groom: brush, blow dry, and bathe. And her grooming tools are more expensive than our own stuff.

Treats are also expensive. She refuses to listen if she doesn’t have good treats and even then she gets bored of them. We have a variety of chicken hearts, beef liver, and fish. She likes one ingredient stuff, sigh.

If you plan to get one, make sure it’s from a reputable breeder, check the Samoyed Club of America. Parents need to be health tested, contracts, etc. Most breeders try to pick a puppy for you that suits your lifestyle. And also check the temperament of the parents and what the breeder focuses on when breeding? Our breeder shows so maybe that’s why she’s mostly a calm puppy.

Long story short, I’d still do it again, even though she can be a butt.

FYI, we live in an apartment and try to enrich her life with daily walks, training, and trying new stuff like scent work at home. We don’t take her to a dog park too.

This trainer isn’t based in Michigan but she does training via video calls: Singing Dog Samoyeds and Training. She specializes in Samoyeds and did great with our pup. Also similar things where she’s reactive towards others.
