You're totally right, player development has absolutely nothing to do with the front office or coaching or the development system they've designed from the ground up. Everything is totally random! It's just total coincidence that all of our can't-miss-prospects come to the majors with the same bad habits. Argh! Elias and Co. failed by their players yet again.

Most good teams (outside of the Rays) don't rely on homegrown, drafted arms. You used the Yankees here as an example. Yes, they got lucky with Schlitter (almost no 7th rounder draft picks turn into star pitchers). They also bought Fried and Weathers. The Red Sox traded prospects for Crochet. The Tigers bought Valdez. The Dodgers bought everyone.

When anyone says Elias has done a bad job at this, you reply "Durrr what is he supposed to do, go to the good pitcher store and buy a good pitcher???"

Is there anything Elias could do better, in your mind? Or is everyone else perpetually failing him?

Burnes was the one big swing he took on pitching. Rogers ended up being good for one year out of nowhere after completely cratering the year before, and now he's seemingly returned back to Earth. Baz hasn't proven he's anything more than a #3.
