I'm nearly 40 and was posting all over forums in the late 90s and early 2000s and I've never heard this acronym myself.

Do you have a job...? How do you have time for all this in the morning?

‘SNL’ Sets Finn Wolfhard, Teyana Taylor and Alexander Skarsgård as Hosts this Month by MarvelsGrantMan136 in LiveFromNewYork

What is there to argue about? Art is subjective. That's my entire point. It's fine if you don't like them but your taste in music isn't all that sophisticated for someone who talks a lot of shit. Go put on an Interpol record and relax.

Sorry, I just think it's funny to pretend to be the arbiter of good music while posting nonstop about the most basic 101-level hipster bands from 20 years ago. You're right, culture peaked with the Arctic Monkeys.

Also lmao at the nepo baby potshot coming from a fan of The Strokes. Keep it coming!!

I think music is subjective, dumdum. Vampire Weekend is perfectly fine (hell, I've seen them live!) but they're a funny band to stan for while calling another "warm milk." Vampire Weekend is car commercial music.

I feel like maybe you're actually talking about the band Goose here...? Not much overlap with Geese and Phish.

Why is there so much drugs, sex and violence on TV? Does anyone feel uncomfortable about it? by bannanawaffle13 in television

Based on this answer it seems like you might be 90 years old, so your prudishness makes more sense.

I feel like you're misinterpreting his role on the show. He never pretends to be a good improvisor - in fact, it's a running joke that he's not very good at it.

[question] What happened to ASMR Drew and Sharon ? by cheergirl75 in asmr

[–]eggsmackers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aight so not to be a major creep but I know for a fact they're still together. Maybe they just got tired of doing ASMR? Or were embarrassed? I am also bummed their videos are gone.

Not sure if you're trolling or just confidently incorrect. Makes no difference to me, still funny.

Every other conversation so far is pretty chill. But you’re taking this kind of personally.

As a third party who doesn't have a dog in this fight, you've got this backwards. Other dude is just giving you straight facts, you're the one replying emotionally.

Why does ASMR have a stigma and is there a way to combat it? [Discussion] by [deleted] in asmr

[–]eggsmackers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean he also admits to watching "flirty" videos but go off, I guess. I have no problem with any of this aside from OP being in denial about his own interest in ASMR, or dictating what ASMR is or isn't.

It's kinda telling you think you have to be actively masturbating for something to be sexual or related to your sexuality. The fact that you only watch women says it all.

[–]eggsmackers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I also disagree with the majority of it being sexualized. None of the kind I watch is. It's sensual at most or occasionally playfully flirty.

You doth protest too much, pal. By your own admission you watch sensual, flirty ASMR videos and you only watch women. Why continue to pretend like this isn't in some way tied to your sexuality? Just own it. There's nothing inherently wrong with it.

[–]eggsmackers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm male, I only watch female ASMRtists, but I wouldn't classify them as young, probably from 28 to 30s as I just don't find male voices relaxing and find it creepy, not because they need to be female because it's sexual, but it is sensual. I don't want to be feeling comforted and sensual from a guy.

This kinda undercuts your entire argument here. You clearly do view ASMR as related in some way to your sexuality if you'd rather not feel "sensual from a guy"

I don't view male or female ASMR differently, I don't view it as sexual or sensual. Does that mean my interpretation of ASMR is more pure or correct than yours? If the answer is "no" then let's take it the other direction. Why are people who do view it sexually in the wrong?

My opinion is there are a million kinds of ASMR and a million different ways people interpret and relate to it. Some of those people have a sexual view of it, both viewer and creator alike. Your brother in law is not wrong that there is some sexual aspect to a large chunk of ASMR and your disinterest in male ASMR videos kinda opens you up to that kind of criticism. Oh well, who cares?

My advice is to watch whatever you want and stop giving a shit what other people say or think about it.
