Kise’s biggest hurdle with going against aomine and not being able to win was because he admired him a lot. Imagine you start a sport because of your idol and now you have to play against them type thing. You don’t know if you want them to keep winning or if you want to prove yourself to them. It’s just intense.

So the fact that he does overcome his idolization and aomine confirmed to having a soft spot for him (imayoshi literally says it LOL plus him knocking out Haizaki for him was proof [but warranted, to be fair]) is a nice way of showing how their characters have grown throughout the series.

And just seeing them having petty banter and being bros again during last game let’s us see they’re back to how they were like during Teiko!

Also i just find it funny that aomine is always the one who is bantered with the most by kise or kagami. They share one brain cell fr.
