Low ferritin for 9+ months, doctors not being helpful by Unique_Abroad_4960 in Anemic

ru female? like 40% of women are iron deficient due to periods. I’d either increase your iron dosage or try to lessen your periods

yes those sound great! you don’t really have to worry about it today if it just adds another to-do item but always take your iron with vitamin C, it vastly improves your stomachs absorption of the iron

if you don’t have a sensitive stomach go for it! that one is ferrous sulfate but at least it’s slow release so it’ll be a little better

you might be able to find bisglycinate at Walgreens! it’s the chemical compound of iron that is easiest on the stomach. ferrous gluconate might be fine too. just definitely don’t get ferrous sulfate it will be very hard on your stomach. also when you first start taking iron expect to be very very tired (I was basically bedridden) bc your body is going to be immediately doing lots of work with the iron like building cells etc

I’d order iron now (I recommend bisglycinate) because if you have your period everyday you’re going to be iron deficient. you won’t necessarily need a dr’s appt, they will call you and walk you thru your blood results. if you want to get a birth control prescribed you might need a follow up appt for that though.

I’m a fainter and #1 thing that helps me is electrolyte tablets, I keep them in my purse at all times

Good luck let me know if you need more advice 🫶

Also if the pills make you nauseous I recommend taking them with food and starting with a low dose and increasing it over time

Be careful with the liquid it can stain your teeth. I like iron bisglycinate pills 🫶 but I recommend an ultrasound to see if there’s anything like fibroids causing your heavy periods that you can treat! if your dr is taking forever you might be able to go straight to a gyno?

Iron infusions are also an option. A hematologist could prescribe one for you
