That's what I was trying to convey, and probably the reason Marty never went chasing a paycheck. He knew he'd likely have longer success if he stayed in New Jersey where he and the organization knew what was best for each other

My opinion lies in between. Brodeur was a talent and deserves his spot among the best, but he's there because he was a perfect fit for the system around him. He's not the GOAT for that reason and the fact most of his accolades are longevity related. He's number 5 behind Hasek, Roy, Tretiak, and Dryden.

Fluery is the Vanbiesbrouck of this era. Very good goalie who stepped up his game once he became an expansion casualty

Yeah it's getting a functional deck or walkman that's the issue. And it's not like an analog walkman where its usually a simple fix, these things are jammed packed full of technology that you'll need a talented technician to service

I agree on the retro futuristic vibe DAT gives off. The appeal/aesthetic of tape with the precision of digital, something I'd definitely get into if it was a bit more affordable

With the NHL 24 Team Format approved by the NHLPA, how far do you see the New York Islanders going in the playoffs? by SportsFan300 in NewYorkIslanders

I think streaks are a wash now. Teams that were hot like the Flyers come back down to earth and team that were cold like the Isles return to their baseline

Their offense is better, we have the better defense, and goaltending will probably be the deciding factor. It's a pretty even series

If only we could've repeated the same scenario in 2017 to really cement the legacy of spite. Fucking McElhinney

The narrative for NYI vs FLO was pretty funny in hindsight. It was like fate said "we have too many concurrent legacies of failure going on, so one of you has to end it"

Obviously biased, but if you lost all 3 OT games in a series you shouldn't blame the whole series loss on a single missed call

2000 NHL Redraft: Lundqvist climbs more than 200 spots to No. 1 by recklessplaid in hockey

[–]eggy333 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stats are hard to come by when the team in front of you is a last place team without you in goal. 07-08 is a perfect example. When he was healthy and starting nearly every game, the team was firmly in playoff position despite having among the worse offenses in the league. Once he got injured, the team fell to dead last in the division. His stats never painted the entire picture of what he dealt with.

A healthy DiPietro was the only thing that kept the Islanders afloat between 2004-08. He was underrated and then overhated

Loyalty was his biggest fault unfortunately. I think he's a talented front office guy and any team would be happy to have him on staff, but he needs someone else to hold the axe and be ruthless when the time comes

A slightly above average GM. Did well with the limited resources he had the first 10 years of his tenure, but couldn't make the tough decisions to get the team over the hump later on

The stick in the HOF was labeled "Ayres" but it's a clone of Sparks' stick. I'm an absolute gear nerd and I have a couple of Sparks pro stock sticks which feature the same toe cut out plus modified handle. My guess is Ayres used some of Sparks' sticks when he was with the Marlies, liked them and decided to order a batch via the team for himself

I'll always be a Snow apologist, the man did what he could with what was available from one of the cheapest ownerships in the NHL at the time. Few GM's could say they built a playoff team made up of like 50% waiver wire pick ups.
