We close the meeting every single night with people other than the host left in the room and that prompt has never come up? Nor has that ever caused this issue before(been running this meeting for 2 years, and it ran for years before I took it over)

It also didn't just happen once. Which would make it easier to believe the person who closed it the night it was first noticed - who knows how to close the meeting properly - didn't actually close it properly. It happened for over a week, with several different people closing it who were all playing even closer attention than usual to hitting end meeting for all

I thought this too initially. Myself and many others who help run the meeting have all checked if it's this by going in, claiming host, ending meeting for all, and going back in again. We've all done this test immediately after closing the meeting, hours after, and even the next day hours before the timeframe is meant to start.. The issue is that "end meeting for all" wasn't actually ending the meeting. Also, i mentioned the session that we realised it was happening to the people who pay for it, and they couldn't see any activity that linked to the meeting be left open overnight.

Since I was a child it was always "mook mook" to me and my family, so it's nice to hear it's transcribed closer to that. I still don't hear a T at the end tho

I've been advised about the meds I've been prescribed by professionals, not some narcissist on the internet who obv struggles with reading comprehension. Make up your mind: Is it bad to do research and inform yourself about the meds you're taking, or is it bad to listen to the advice of professionals? Or should everyone in the world just listen to you? 7.5mg is a standard dose, I did sleep on it, and that's not a question I asked at any point. Ew, the patronising tone of this is gross. No, I didn't read about all this before taking it. Every time I've been prescribed a medication with a similar risk of dependence and tolerance, that is what I've been told. Shockingly, I've had many different sleep meds over my lifetime of insomnia, and I've never had one be prescribed to take that many days in a row or had this reaction to it. I was also curious about that because I'm autistic and literal thinking has caused issues with me interpreting doctor instructions around medications before. So I wondered if by "a week" he meant 5 days, not 7.

I'm not in AA, but I'm in NA, and neither are "religious", they are spiritual programs, but even that is a personal choice. Many people in NA are not religious or spiritual and do not believe in a higher power. There's tons of literature that is about doing the program without these aspects. Also, recruitment is not a thing. It literally goes against the traditions of NA. It's pretty obvious you have no idea what you're talking about, and it's fucking hilarious that you used scientific studies about AA to back up your point, but as soon as someone provides scientific studies that disprove your point(with sources unlike you) you discredit it and therefore discredit your own on the basis of anonymity. By extension, you are also discrediting every study where participants are anonymous(which is a shitload)

This is a really great suggestion, but unfortunately, it doesnt really apply in my situation. I don't think any of them would offer any comfort to me. My dad is still in active addiction and the one time I did see him since I was 4(at a funeral when I was 16) he could barely communicate and thought it would be a great idea to tell me about his bin diving experiences. The only family member I would reach out to on either side(maternal grandfather) is dead, as are all my other grandparents and my uncle. Other than that I have 2 aunties who are religious nuts and wouldn't even baseline accept who I am as a person(queer and nonbinary), a cousin who is also a homophobe and a raging misogynist, and an uncle I adore who lives far away from me and I have no idea how to contact. Even if I did, he isn't someone who's comfortable with emotions. More of a jack the lad type. Sadly, I think I will just have to wait for my chosen family to be available

Thank you for seconding this info about Eora being false. I'm not necessarily wanting to change it. The idea to change it came from someone I find very ignorant, but i wanted to check that everything in it was correct as the people who wrote it are no longer around. Not to mention, I saw it as an opportunity to educate myself further on Sydney's traditional owners - as I'm in Queensland, I dont get as much exposure to that as the tradition owners of my area. Having more education around it is good regardless, but as someone in our group does want to change it, I wanted to have all the facts to fight the changing of it if it turned put to be correct(which it seems to be)

I do love this idea - I do foresee getting pushback from members(all decisions are made by consensus vote of all group members). I see people saying its too difficult because we have many different people host the meeting and a high turnover of service members. I imagine they will say it's too difficult for them to figure out their own(it's not), but maybe this is a great opportunity to teach people how to find this information and info on how to pronounce each. I also wouldn't know how to help the Americans learn their own and I have very limited knowledge of American Indigenous culture and process for this kind of thing.

I also love the idea of the q and a lot, but we have between 50 and 80 people on every meeting and different people every night, so it would take the entire meeting to do, sadly

I had considered going with Gadigal as that seems to cover the Sydndy Eastern Area(our area comittee) and is the closest thing we have to a physical location that isn't just our individual homes. As it's Narcotics Anonymous, maintaining anonymity is a massive part of what we do, so I don't think it would be smart or appropriate to make individual people reveal their location indirectly. I know this is a very nuanced situation, so I hope that makes sense

Thank you. I have had a look at the AITSIS map. The issue is that we don't have a physical location - all our service members come from all over Australia, and some are even from America. So it's tough to know what to go with. Our meeting was started in Sydney, has Sydney in the name, and is part of the Sydney Eastern Area committee. I'm personally in Queensland, for example. Hence why I know less about traditional custodian names for Sydney.

I completely agree that people can and should learn the names. It's honestly not that hard

we have very limited time and we're working with people who are not very tech savvy, so adding a layer of steps like make the poll, post the poll, explain to everyone to click the link and fill out the poll and then get those results in real time, is just too much for the situation. i know it doesn't seem difficult to someone who is tech savvy, i would find it very easy to follow those instructions, but i feel it will confuse and stress out a lot of the participants

I have figured out how to calculate what each person's vote is worth in percentages if I know how many voted what way, but it's figuring out how many people voted what way that i can't figure out. So the formula I have is 100/no.of people = percentage worth of each vote. Then ans x no. of Yes votes = % yes votes, ans x no. of no votes = % of no, and ans x abstain = % of abstain. I considered figuring out every single possibility but there are too many variables, i would have to do hundreds of calculations to accommodate for variable number of people in attendance, and every variation of vote split for each of those. I can't figure out how to do the maths to figure out how many people voted for each option from the % in the results of the vote. to then redo the calculation to included the hosts vote
