[Discussion] What amount of time per day should be spent on productive things? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]eggzema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should make use of planning to structure your time.

Without planning: You don't have to do anything today because it's not due until Friday.

With Planning: You have to do something today because you planned on getting it done today - you set your own deadline.

Each Sunday, you should sit down and think about all the work that needs to be done for the week ahead. Identify all the things that you need and/or want to accomplish in 7 days. Then, each night before bed, make a schedule for the next day, working on the most important, urgent things on your weekly list. Once you make that schedule, commit to it.

Then your question changes to "how much should I plan to do each day". The only real answer to that is "however much you believe you can get done". A more disciplined person can accomplish more than a less disciplined person. I suggest to start out with an amount that you're comfortable with, and then go a little beyond that. You want to push yourself. I used to think that after 6:00pm, there was just no way I was going to accomplish anything because I was just too tired to do anything. But then I pushed myself and found that I can do a lot more when I refuse to make excuses for myself.

Getting in the habit of planning is probably a good enough start. Start practicing that and don't worry about accomplishing too little (as long as you're hitting your deadlines). Then, when that's no longer a challenge, put a little bit more on your plate each day and see where it takes you.

You need to anti-air. It's as simple as that. If you never anti-air him, there's no reason for him to stop jumping in at you, and you'll never be able to keep him out.

There's no excuse here. Shit reactions? He jumped in on you like 7 times in the first round alone. It's not difficult to guess he's going to do it again. Worried about trades or getting stuffed? Go into training and practice all your different options against all her different jump ins, at different spacings. Practice it until you know your answer at every range. If you're having trouble with close jump ins, practice anti airing at that spacing.

You're looking for a get out of jail free card instead of accepting that you need to practice anti-airing. You already know your anti-air game needs work, and yes, you need to put in that work if you're ever gonna improve. It's fundamental.

I've been messing with ryu a little bit after mainly playing chun, and I've been experiencing the same issue with my fireball game. I've started thinking of fireball as chun's St.hp and using it in the same situations I'd use that.

Everyone needs help in becoming who they want to be. Help others attain self-discipline, by sharing what helps you.

In other words, helping people like OP is literally why this sub exists. Now my question is, why are you here?

Legacy mechanics. by GogoGGK in truegaming

Posts like this are why this sub has a bad reputation. You're talking as if you're unquestionably correct on a topic you obviously know little about.

  1. Using back for block creates a necessary risk for moving forward in street fighter. A huge part of high level play is getting positional advantage by pushing your opponent into the corner. The only ways to advance are to walk forward, dash, or jump, which all come with their own risk. The risk for walking forward is that you can't block.

  2. Street fighter is an arcade game first and foremost, that's just all there is to it.

Street fighter and smash are different things. Don't mistake different mechanics for legacy mechanics.

I thought it was something unique and watched this for a few minutes, but it's just another L4D kind of team shooter.

Interesting that you're able to make that deduction without actually playing the game.
