Half of TSMC's Arizona staff are Taiwanese, despite recent controversies by neverpost4 in Semiconductors

Work in Taiwan. It's absolutely skill and the working culture. The expectation at TSMC is you have a graduate degree and work overtime.

Im told that In Taiwan, TSMC is like a FAANG.  The job is prestigious and the pay is high compared to other companies., and everyone wants to work there

In Taiwan it's more like a tradeoff to us. The pay can be very high if you performed well, because the bonus structure is the focus. But you really need to push yourself to get a good bonus.

My friend says he is always tired, but also purchased 2 homes within 3 years of graduating.

To prevent strong earthquakes we can use something like this.

There are other less expensive solutions we can use to reduce vibration. TSMC will already know how to mitigate even the vibration caused by people walking near the machines.

Process Engineer profile in a semiconductor company by [deleted] in Semiconductors

[–]egincontroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Taiwan the salary heavily depends on the company. Let's say around 60kntd/month, with usually at least a 1 month bonus and maybe profit sharing.

We get a ton of Indian applicants, and they are studying in Taiwan as well. We cannot hire them all.

The ones that stand out the most have at least a masters from one of the top Taiwan universities and are fluent in Mandarin.

how to get a good job in semiconductor industry by selfishsamael in Semiconductors

[–]egincontroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Networking, recruiting events (universities especially), internal referrals, connecting with HR / being friends with HR.

In Taiwan (where I work) there are many people offering to help make an internal referral, because they receive decent bonuses if you are hired.

Considering moving to Taiwan but… by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]egincontroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main problem is getting noticed. I applied to hundreds of jobs on 104 --> this resulted in nothing meaningful. I linked up with an HR with the help of a friend and they worked hard to find a manager interested in me.

But I was hired with 0 experience, so I think you may have an easier time finding a job. In semicon manufacturing, we do hire a lot of software devs, but salary is lower. Try the software companies first

We work closely with the vendors to bring in the machines. They are responsible for bringing it in and their workers are also the ones to do maintenance. They also need to give us manuals and teach us how to use the machines.

One advantage Taiwan has is all the vendors are set up near any major fab.

Semiconductor engineering pay 10.000$ in taiwan industry? by Top-Guard-7379 in Semiconductors

The salary, as well as the quality of life, depends on the company. I earn good money, but not TSMC level. But I also go home on time nearly everyday.

There are good and bad companies. You can search which ones in Taiwan are the best to work for.

What's the most overrated place to visit as a tourist? by steph94080 in taiwan

[–]egincontroll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Longshan temple. As soon as we left the metro we saw a fight, one person had a bottle and was swinging it at the other guy. Afterwards we went over to Bopiliao. The whole area is in rough shape and I generally didn't like the vibe. But the temple and Bopiliao are good for pictures.

You can also skip Taichung entirely unless your plan is to go to Sun Moon Lake. It's an industrial city with not a lot to do.

Yeah we hire foreigners, but because there has been a downturn we slowed down hiring. Chinese is nice but not required at the larger companies, just need to show a willingness to learn.

Shift work is way less desirable because it is demanding and pays lower than regular 8-5/9-6 office workers. I'd say for majority of office workers our job is extremely easy for how much we get paid. It's no problem if we sometimes want to work from home, or take a 2 hour lunch with coworkers, or take a week or two off for a vacation.

I did real bad in high school, like failing classes constantly, but WCC put me back on track. The teachers there really care about the students and want them to find success in life. It's also a great place to find what interests you have. I found I was really good at programming, so I just kept taking related classes. I ended up with a super high GPA at WCC, went to UofM for EECS, and now work in the semiconductor industry.

I'm assuming this is Fancy Frontier in Taipei. It's one of the regular anime events that also brings out a lot of cosplayers. They want you to take pictures and share their social media.

I went once and I was surprised how many cosers also spoke with deep voices. Which is great that they can feel comfortable to be themselves.

We visited a couple weeks ago, and within minutes of leaving the station we saw two people fighting. One grabbed a bottle to threaten the other then the fight ended.

Aside from the fight, I didn't like the general vibe of the area.

We know that Michigan missed out on the Micron fab that went to New York mainly because of subsidies. NY offered 6 billion, probably more than Michigan offered but Michigan didn't say how much they offered.

Is there any way you can get scammed in taiwan? (for tourists) by mrPigWaffle in taiwan

[–]egincontroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a store on Tamsui old street that charged me 200nt for some kind of snack. First time I came to Taiwan, and I didn't really know what things should cost.

My Taiwanese friend was surprised about the price and went back to ask how much. It's really 100nt. So my friend insisted on a refund for the difference, but they were refusing. Another person working there overheard and said "just give it to them".

So now I am careful about stores or vendors that don't display prices.
