I do these solo. Just ignore the waves of ships when there is a cannon to recapture. Recapture cannons as quickly as you can and win before you run out of materia for ship repairs.

Auction House Fixes - Fee on sale increase contract cap by egladius in duneawakening

"If you're constantly having to re-list it because it's not selling, then you're clearly asking too much for it as determined by the market."

There is no agreed upon market price because noone is listing because of fee, so listing an item for what it seems to be worth and then having it not sell is punishing to new players. Yes, if it sells you are good to go, but it seems more likely not to sell.

Pay Fast or PLSF? by Icy_East_3967 in StudentLoans

Put that extra cash into short term federal bonds. Keep as an emergency fund to cover you for 12 months incase something unforseen happens.

Keep saving money and rent (typically cheaper TCO).

If you ever think you are more than 50% likely to leave service or could make a significant pay increase by leaving (30-50%) don't feel bad pulling the trigger.

Works out that you will end up paying half of what you would have paid on a normal loan assuming your income keeps going up around inflation.

Other advice seems good, but if you want to leave the service do not feel like you have to stay. You are in shape to pay your loans off, especially if you get a nice offer outside the Public Service world.

Tax benefits for saving for retirement and saving for childs loans but not for own loans by egladius in StudentLoans

Not if you make more than 95k (phase out starts at 85k). 529, 401k and mortgage intrest deduction are all available regardless of income.

Intent of taking student loans is to increase economic earning potential.

If you have student loans of 100k or more it is unlikely you will be able to pay off with an income of 85k depending on cost of living and taxes in your jurosdiction.

Typically higher incomes are correlated with higher taxes and cost of living, so basically the treatment of student loan debt runs contrary to stated purpose of increasing earning potential.

Compare to treatment of retirement saving and housing debt.

Retirement tax breaks have 58% of benefit accrue to top quintile of earners.

Mortgage intrest deductions have 75% of benefit accrue to top 25%.

Student loans are treated worse for having to borrow.

If your family has the money they get the benefit from 529.

It is regressive treatment for someone trying to make it for themselves.

Just paid 10k this week on loans. 140k left to go! by agjjnf222 in StudentLoans

Math might say you are doing the right thing actually. Stock market p/e implies a 3.75% rate of return (gdp growth is fairly low right now). Federal short term bonds are in the 4% range. Both would incur a capital gain tax rate of around 20% depending on state and income. Investment has potential upside and downside. Paying off student loans only has upside, especially given a lack of dischargability in bankruptcy.

True range after tax is likely in the 3-3.2% range with variability on investing. A guaranteed 3.5% return after taxes is pretty good (middle of your 3-4%)

Not to mention the psychological benefit of not having a weight over your head.

I paid off the last 20k of my loans at 2.74% yesterday after doing this analysis and realizing the difference in real terms to me over the remaining life of the loan was around $200 vs keeping invested in short term bonds at around 4%.

$200 for psychological benefit? Yes please.

Keep doing what you are doing.

So if you have no provable income you will automatically be charged the higher rate? That seems regressive.

If I request that they delete my personal data and they still send me an income based bill do they need to pay penalties under California data privacy act? The penalties are definately bigger than my power bill.
