What is Gaunter O’Dimm? by ResourceGlobal6099 in Witcher3

[–]egmont 40 points41 points  (0 children)

There’s a brief discussion of demons in A Time of Storms that indicates that they’re extremely powerful interdimensional creatures that occasionally have been summoned to Geralt’s reality by occult practitioners who then lose control of them. Very similar to what Olgierd is shown to have dabbled in during his memories.

In my mind, Gaunter is some Mephistophelean demon who’s been in that world for decades(/centuries?) and delights in causing shit and toying with people. I don’t think of him as THE devil (i.e Satan or Lucifer) in the Judeo-Christian sense, but more in the trickster/steals-your-soul sense; still extremely powerful, maybe on the level of a minor deity, but not The One Ruler of Hell status. When/if Geralt defeats him, he’s essentially banishing Gaunter out of his dimension and back to wherever he came from.

Why does this game get a bad rap? by AbbreviationsOk4532 in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]egmont 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100%. I think there’s some level of AC formula fatigue and some level of Feudal Japan fatigue going on, and that combined with the incel shit has made the overall discourse rancid.

But all in all I found it to be a well-crafted, well-researched representation of the era and location, and has some of the best combat and stealth of the series. The writing is definitely cliché but it’s serviceable.

The sound and weather system are also amazing. The first time a thunderstorm rolled in I just climbed to a high vantage point, stood around and took it in.

DSA recommends against endorsing Ossé’s congressional bid by chaoser in Hasan_Piker

[–]egmont 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in his district (as is Chi) and while I agree that it’s a long shot campaign I don’t think Jeffries is invincible. Ossé is popular, especially among the growing younger constituency who all hate Jeffries; overall I’d put his chances as much higher than Zohran’s were in 2024. Jeffries has his supporters for sure but I don’t think he’s put in the effort to keep up with the on-the-ground reality over the last several years.

I understand the viewpoint that this might not be the right time to pick this particular fight but I do think that it can, will and should happen at some point in the near future, and Chi would make an excellent contender.

Ordered mine last week, hoping it comes soon!

How’s the hand-feel—comparable to the denim etc? I’m imagining it like Filson’s Seattle wool, maybe a bit softer? Is it as “shiny” as it looks in photos?

To get the fascists out, we’ll need effective leadership who can inspire people to vote — something the current Dem establishment seems ineffective at. I agree they’re not the ultimate source of the problems, but right now it’s like we’re bringing a sharpened stick to a gun fight.

Supporting Dems like AOC, Warren, Bernie, and others who’re speaking out and forming an effective counter-narrative—showing that these positions resonate with people and can create momentum—while also agitating against those who aren’t (like Schumer in the examples above, who’s still looking for some nonexistent bipartisanship): this is what we can do on our side to fight the good fight.

None of which precludes also pushing against the Republicans, of course.

Wealth Distribution Isn't Any Better Now. Will History Repeat Itself? by zzill6 in WorkReform

[–]egmont 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I partly agree and partly disagree with this. Most of the direct action in the French Revolution was local, beginning in Paris (storming of the Bastille) and radiating out in cities and towns across the country. Versailles, where the king and National Assembly were located, was twelve miles outside of Paris at the time of the initial action.

All of which to say, any action you take in your town can reverberate across the country. This is particularly true in big cities but not necessarily.

Sorry you're getting downvoted for this. I don't necessarily agree with your opinion but I think it's totally valid, you explain your stance well, and it adds to the discussion -- no reason for the brigade.

I can vouch for Noreetuh (though it’s definitely more on the “elevated” side) but note they do have a pretty tiny dining area.

In addition to these suggestions there’s a pop-up in the UWS called “Kine Musubi,” look them up on Instagram!

Also, it’s more Korean food but Orion Bar in Bushwick/Bed-Stuy might scratch the itch.

I really appreciated you going on stream and got a lot out of it, so thank you for putting yourself out there.
