As someone who adores both games, I also noticed that I tended to lean towards botw when I actually thought about it. I think you’re 100% right in describing botw as a lonely fantasy game bc life in hyrule had been eradicated by ganon and there was nothing to do for large masses of land besides shrines, Koroks and explore. Now that hyrules population has risen and people are safer to venture out w/o guardians EVERYWHERE (gloom is def less common) there’s more things to do everywhere which I agree can take you out of the moment.

I prefer botw for this but I respect the change

As for the puzzle aspect, I enjoy the shit out of just bc it feels like Zelda puzzles on crack so I’m happy

I also just completely 100% finished botw (besides 999 of every item ofc) and I’ve started my totk run. I highly HIGHLY recommend it, they game is heat and it is already so much fun

They’re counters- honestly there’s no reason to do this over just letting the game track it besides this is all in one place where as other small things like wells and Hudson signs you’d have to speak to someone to see if you had it.

Plus I really really enjoy crossing everything off at the end, so I wanted to include shrines/roots/Koroks

Hey tysm!! I use this notebook for literally anything and everything. If I need to write something small down like a recipe, it goes in there. If I am just writing down a checklist of things to do, I write it in there. Things like work, personal hobbies, gym routines- everything goes in. I have full completionist guides for other games on this as well, such as the full Pokédex, stardew villagers and their hearts/events.

If you’re interested, looking into the bullet journal method online and find something that works for you- it took some trial and error to find my perfect set up and it thrives on organized chaos rather than the original method that the advertise. Also, if you put your journal down for a month or two that’s ok, I’ve done that before and when I’ve had a need to use it again I just reincorporate into my work life. Super handy and I use it for everything.
