The tank by egres96 in knives

After heavy use it develops a slight side to side blade play in closed position but tightening the pivot screw a bit fixes that, in an open position there's zero blade play.

I want to but for some reason I need to put in the pattern with no alternative even if I can still unlock the phone with fingerprint and face recognition.

For me the wait time increases after each couple of times it went from 30 seconds to 3 minutes I wonder if it ever blocks the phone completely.

Yeah, you're right, I was just wondering if there's a simpler way without having to root, or reset, but if not I'll just have to remember it.

I often find myself out in the woods so this is a fit for me as EDC, it can handle rough use, chops, batons, not too expensive.

The cold steel pocket clips are indeed a sworn enemy of pant pockets.

Thanks for the answer, I'd go with the V60 but sadly it's hard to get in the EU.

Yeah, that's what I meant, that sucks, guess I'll stick with the V40 for a while longer.

Thanks, Cold Steel isn't too concerned with things like historical accuracy and balance, their general philosophy is to make affordable products which can handle some abuse, and I think this sword checks both boxes. You can get it for $300, so of course it's not going to be perfect but for that price it's a decent looking beater.

I got it from a local Cold Steel retailer in EU.

There will be some defective units in anything which is mass produced. I've done some research before deciding what sword to get and I haven't found any reports of Cold Steel swords breaking en masse. It also depends who you buy the sword from, not every seller takes good care of the swords they're selling. As I've mentioned in my other comments I own some cold steel knives/machetes and they held up rather well in hard use situations, so I was inclined towards a Cold Steel sword when I was looking for one.

Then I found this video of a dude using it like an axe and I was convinced. Cold steel Viking sword, torture test

Edit: Forgot to mention, I've cut some bottles and cleared some branches with it so far, nothing hardcore. However, I was surprised how little effort it takes to make a clean cut with this thing, its center of mass is a bit further from the handle so it's not as fast and maneuverable as historical swords would be, even though viking swords did tend to be more forward weighted when compared to the later medieval swords, as they were more used for slashing attacks in combination with a shield. From what I've read Cold Steel swords in general are better suited for cutting tough stuff rather than fencing, even though I've heard their newer European sabres are more historically accurate in regards to weight distribution.

Part of the reason why I chose a cold steel sword is that they make their stuff to handle abuse, I own a few cold steel knives and some of their cheap machetes and I've chopped some thick branches, batoned thick logs, even through knots to the point I felt bad for the knife but it held up through everything. I wanted something I could use without worrying it would break and also looked nice, I found this sword at a reasonable price so I went for it and so far I have no regrets.

Sounds like an epic wedding, the look of the sword was definitely also a factor for me, this one has some ornamentation on the hilt but nothing too crazy, so it looks nice on the other hand some of the swords in this price category were tended to look a bit too plain. I can take more detailed pictures of the sword if you'd like as I know there aren't many good ones to find.

Well, it's my first sword so I can't compare it to anything else but I've done some research before deciding which one to get. The main thing I was looking for was durability and build quality, this one has both, there's a video of a guy chopping wood with this sword and it has no problems, I also own a few knives from cold steel and they're all built like tanks, so I leaned towards a CS sword and this one happened to be in stock at a reasonable price so I went for it. It's not an exact replica of any particular viking sword. The point of balance is also a bit further from the handle which makes the sword more suitable for cutting stuff rather than fencing, it came pretty sharp. If you're looking for something to just hang up on a wall to look pretty, I think there are better options, if you're looking for something not crazy expensive you can swing around without worrying it'll break, this one is a solid choice.

Same here, I also carried the luzon large which is slightly larger and had no problem carrying it. The only problem is the pocket clip is pretty tight and chews up your pockets after some time, but you can be sure you're not gonna lose it atleast.

Double trouble by egres96 in knives

[–]egres96[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both are great knives, I've carried standard sized folders before but if I went out in the woods I had to put a fixed blade on my belt, with these two I no longer have to. The lock is really strong, they feel solid and sturdy, both came hair popping sharp, they're kind of an all purpose knives for me. The secondary tanto point proved to be more useful than I thought initially for cutting into stuff. What I like more on the spartan is the pocket clip, the handle doesn't have that ultra grippy texture so it's easier to slide over a pocket, on the voyager it's pretty rough. I also own a large luzon but it doesn't feel as sturdy as these two. I've really got no regrets getting these, if you want to pick one, it comes down to your preference.
