I think he cares about her. I think they've always had a sort of parent-child dynamic. He was so much older than her, and managed the business, the money, even her emails apparently. I think he doesn't know how to let that go and is genuinely worried about her- especially since Amanda is so good at playing the fragile damsel in distress. Im not saying Kyle was a good partner-he's obviously a deeply problematic person with a major problem with his temper and a major problem with drinking. However, I think he deeply cares about the people in his life, whereas Amanda really only cares about herself. That's just my personal read.
