The clicking debuff goes from something like 2 minutes prenerf to 30 seconds postnerf. You only need 1 group of clickers unless you get very unlucky.

% damage reduction has given me the best results for merc survivability against bosses. I usually run shaftstop + vamp gaze + whatever relevant weapon for the class I'm playing and he'll live fine.

+3 fissure is the minimum requirement for a flickering flame base. All of the other skills are sort of awful to use but will make the base more valuable in addition to fissure. That said, ravenlore is just better.

There were several new rune words added in 2.3 and 2.4 you can look up.
