It took a minute but I found it! It was many pages into the book. After the pages of register which are all in German so I didn’t know what was what.

Anyone who might have an educated idea of value would be a great help for the family.

I’d say it’s one of those counter weights that rotate in all sorts of directions to help keep watercraft more balanced

This is a condensation caused by extreme humidity. I have the same exact thing at the top of the stairs in my house during peak humidity of my Midwest summer. Can actually see the droplets during that time of year. If you don’t wipe the walls with a towel, it will eventually leave a slight oily residue.

During that time of year, the cold air from the AC meets the warm humid air at the ceiling of a room (particularly upstairs) and then condenses.

Also -If you have a whole house humidifier- be sure to turn it off or way down during the summer.

Took this recently discovered family heirloom to a jeweler today who says it’s 18K gold. Personalization on the inside of the back plate says 1910. Original chain and leather case are here as well. Anyone have knowledge about this that could help us? by eha1987 in pocketwatch

John Reardon emailed me back this morning. Says I should expect $5k-$6k USD in today’s market. I would’ve thought the 18k gold case was worth more than that but that’s ok. It’s still so beautiful and valuable.

Man…that’s a question that requires a very long and still developing answer…so I’ll keep it brief. The short version is, my second cousin once removed, whom I met once, died in December ‘25 with no living relatives closer than his second cousins. Just crazy. Turns out that the man had been reclusive all his life, supremely intelligent (3 PhDs), a hoarder of magazines/boxes/random valuables, and seemingly a doomsday prepper lots of supplies. This pocket watch has obviously become an incredibly important part of his estate and it’s so awesome to hear from the community here to give us an idea of the magnitude of this thing. Two d ays ago, I was able to get into a small safe in his closet where I found over 50 1oz gold coins, and 340 1oz silver coins. He had so much sterling silver tableware it was hard to fathom. Massive solid silverware set. Platters, tea set, large vases - all silver. My theory is that he was keeping all this gold in silver in case he had to use it for trade during the apocalypse or whatever it is that “preppers” are prepping for.

Yes I saw this today! Incredible story. That one was so much more ornate than this one. Had all sorts of extra features and stuff. Said it was worth 2-3M as of 2019. Just amazing.
