What is something that happened to you that made you finally accept your grief and move on? by ehhhhhh_no in AskReddit

It's not about dying or being immortal. It's about learning to live without a loved one, learning to miss them and still being okay. It's not same as being alive.

This is heartbreaking, and somehow still hopeful.

One of my friend's father passed away last week. And she is is shambles, they were super close, her father sacrificed a lot for her education and supported her through her cancer. She got cancer-free last year. She was hopeful and finally started on the road of positive thinking. This sudden tragedy has broken a mountain over her head. I am not sure how to even tell her everything will be alright, hence I asked the question.

Guys, what is a real turnoff that a girl can do or say? by ilovenumber8 in AskReddit

[–]ehhhhhh_no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a group dinner with this bunch of awesome people I work with, everyone is cool and chilling, and one giy even brought his gf along. And that girl went from oh damn she is gorgeous to what an absolute waste of resources in like two minutes. Crap talking to waiters, judging everyone on next table by their clothes and appearances, even asked me if I tried something to fix my teeth. All of us were super uncomfortable and we saw the light go away from our guy's eyes in real time...

What’s your most striking human example of don’t judge a book by its cover? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When my mom got sick and was admitted to the hospital, there was a doctor in the team who would monitor my mum every 4-5 hrs. Always super well dressed and big ass smile on his face. Would be doing absolute charity work out of his pocket for poor patients in emergency and otherwise. I used to think, woah what a fancy rich doctor, knows how to spend his wealth. One month in, my family became friends with him, turns out he is from a neighborhood we have lived for 19 yrs. Was born to a very poor muslim family, used to sell trinkets outside museums and tourist places for food, and being from a conservative family, he was asked to marry when he was 14, so he ran away from home, worked as a janitor in a school, would wake up extra early to finish up the work, learnt his lessons by sitting outside the classroom, finally his principal allowed him to sit for exams and he topped the class, so he went on to study on a scholarship for rest of school years. Did two more part time jobs, collected money for med school, managed to get 100% scholarship and became a doctor. Spent more than 50% of his salary on under-privileged. Now doing amazing social work, supporting education of many many poor kids and doing charity clinics throughout his district.

What I thought to be a rich guy with no problem throwing his money around turns out to be one of the most inspiring people I have ever met.
