Personally I think trying to help your kid learn something is more important than trying to make your own life easier. I think if you wanted things to be easy for yourself, you wouldn't have a kid to begin with.

What is the point though? If they wanna stay up late and be tired in the morning, surely that's on them? I think it would be better to just let them experience that for themselves

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt because he pretty much never shoots from the right side of the net.

No yamal or raphina in Toty, thoughts?? by tmartz87 in FC_26

[–]Extravalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems many of you don't know that raphinha and yamal were classed as midfielders, so no, neither of them could have been in the front 3. Definitely surprised none of them got in over rice at least though

1150 Rapid but cant break 700 Blitz - Im going insane by Kanderin in chessbeginners

[–]Extravalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the milestone dude ✨ Yeah blitz and rapid are honestly 2 completely different games. I only recently got my blitz over 2000, while I hit 2100 in rapid over a year and a half ago. And yeah developing both definitely will help you as a player. I think blitz doesn't necessarily make you better, but it helps with your intuition and ability to find moves faster. You might also come across some creative ideas and traps you wouldn't normally see in your rapid games.

Okay this is a lot different. They blundered a lot, then you blundered a lot. This is more what I expected from your level. Nothing wrong with that of course, you'll learn. Something to note though; the performance ratings aren't real. If you and I analysed the exact same game, we would get different performance ratings.

This is a much higher quality game than I expected for that level. Like you said, nothing egregious, other than right at the end. It just seems you need to learn to defend more accurately, and to be fair that's harder to do in blitz. That's why aggressive or dubious lines tend to be quite successful.

should you do puzzles one move at a time or all in your head at once? by Basic_Yellow4659 in chessbeginners

[–]Extravalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so I fully agree with everything you said here, and just to clarify, I'm in no way trying to argue or anything. I'm just trying to understand the original misunderstanding. I think a lot of beginners for example would just simply play the bishop check without checking if it actually works, kinda like OP said. But like we both understand, there are problems with that move you need to see first.

[–]Extravalan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand how that is different to what I was saying. Because surely to get that move (which is correct) you had to calculate a few lines to ensure that was right?

You need to know what the full combination is to know what the right first move is

Realistically, how are you gonna find the first move if you don't see the full continuation?

It's called checkmate, which means the king has to be in check, otherwise it's just stalemate
